Pre -76, my question is what would the gd community prefer, the punishing chest dog or the controlling ear dog?.... also, what's your kryptonite for either type of dog? Just something on the mind....

I wouldn't perfer an ear sucker, Even though Different hounds have different styles. As are old friend TDK used to say , He who bites last bites hardest.

I've seen some ear dogs do a lot more than just suck lol. Me personally I like dogs with no particular style, one that can change up and do whatever or needs to get job done

Ear/head dog generally has the better chance of a long career. Kryptonite to beat either is a better dog. A rangy face/ear dog with good defense can keep a chest eater out and away. Basically to beat the ear dog you have to get to your spots and catch it enough times to really hurt it.

Agreed! "Ear suckers" are usually boring to watch. Smart ones are hard to beat tho. They can frustrate the opposition, and some handlers. Most think ear/head dogs don't finish. If you see an aggressive head fighter, you might change your mind about head dogs. Take an ear clean off...

Some ear dogs will just hold on until they can gr8 in and kill you in short order once they've landed that hold. But a punishing chest dog is a sight to behold. Over before it began

You take that punishing chest dog and jump on top and start riding that bike you'll let it start burning its energy out all around the box. Key with this technique is conditioning and being able to keep the defensive pace up. One trip up or bobbing against the wall when you should have weaved and they're going to start taking the wind out of your sails.

Man that good mouth head ear nose dog is awesome....but damn that game hard mouth chest dog will ruin a day.... I agree back in the day conditioning plays the role...I would prefer both for both.....just a thought.....zebo vs bolio...or Homer vs bolio... any thoughts.... two at their best or Buck vs the two....zebo and Homer..

Naus on point again. Mouth being equal it comes to smarts. That chest dog is gone push, he has to to get his spot. Gettin that head and muzzle worked over is a bitch. Holes in muzzle, teeth missin, that ol schnozzola, you get it. Chest dogs look great when they get that right spot tho. I feel a chest dog needs to be very powerful and/or have bear trap mouth.

    The bear trap no doubt.....

Funny how some give no credit to a ear/head dog even after they get whooped.. Smh

If the dog has a vise grip mouth I want the chest dog that gets eyeballs deep into the armpit. It won't last long enough for the wind to be taken out his sails as they'll kill you long before that happens. Has to have good mouth though. I like both styles but if a dog has a good mouth on them and gets into that area it won't take long to be over with. Had a dog named Redrum that would bury his face up to the eyeballs in an armpit and within 10 minutes was killing you. A smart head dog is awfully hard to beat though. They become very good at control and staying out of trouble long enough to wear the other down or make them quit out of frustration.

Like naus already said, the counter or kryptonite to the other style is a better more talented dog.

I've always preferred the opportunist. Take whatever is offered, work it till something better is offered. Never really cared for dogs that fixate on a single area unless they are experts at reaching that area and are effective at ending it once they get there.

Like I said the ear/head dog is awesome in operation, especially if he can dance like a ballerina and tango with a partner. Beautiful until he can land his/her hold for a finish. However, I simply love a dog who can hold his/her own until they can land that sweet spot, but a dog that can shut that mouth on a chest will see the end of a party before it began.

Well of course anyone wants the complete ace freak that gets it over before it starts. Thats kind of obvious.

I think I would like a good head dog that would finish in the throat or rearend...

Depends on many things. Chest dogs are more attractive, ear dogs have a higher chance for a longer career.
