the simple fact is...not enough people work the staffs, put the time in,nor have the space to create a yard of competable staffs.it does not mean that those that are around are not good enough!!

With the staffords being legal id of thought itll be fine to get the space, easier anyway as nothing is illegal in keeping em. My point is if they produced aswell as the pits then more people would bother with em. I dont see the point of bothering when the pit is more likely to produce better and is more aless the same dog but better? Why waste the time just for a different name?

All that said the boys trying with the staffords i gotta respect. At least those dogs deserve to bred unlike 99% of the staffords.

The breeder determines what the outcome of the breeding will be!. You have to cultivate a yard of working amstaffs.. Real working apbts are genetically manipulated to continue to be better than previously at working.

Sure an amstaff can whop a pit, they are in essence a watered down version. Years of selecitve breeding within a closed gene pool could bring the fight and gameness back out. That is why some amstaffs are fire DA and some aren't. Some produce DA dogs. Most aren't game tho... No body selectively breeds amstaffs to work in the [].

So the answer to your question. The apbt and amstaff are bred for different purposes. They will produce the highest percentage of what they are bred for. The apbt to box, and the amstaff to look good.
Your chances of having game dogs out of a litter of game bred dogs. Is way higher than having the gameness reappear in a litter of show dogs..

We are talking about amstaffs right?

This conversation (and this section of GD) is about the Staffordshire Bull Terrier ;)
I get what you mean. I think that has to do with the breeding behind staffords compared to the apbt's out there. A lot of the stafford stuff i've seen is best-to-best or not as tightly inbred/linebred as a lot of the apbt's out there.

For example, if you've got a good Redboy bitch you've got a bunch of different options on how you want to breed her. You could try to stay heavy Redboy, or find a good stud that's off of one of the proven Redboy crosses like Redboy/Jocko. In theory they should produce. But like you said, if the staffords aren't bred as tightly, their ability to produce is compromised. You can have outstanding dogs that (like "battle crosses") don't throw any great ones. There just aren't many families of gamebred staffords that have been kept alive and true compared to the apbt.

i dont think the american posters realise how bad it is in Britain, owning any bull breed is treated with suspicion, but owning several athletic staffs?technically your dog can be seized and destroyed if it fits more than 50% of the apbt breed standard so owning any athletic looking small bull breed is risky, and ive got a feeling soon to get worse.

have to ask yourself then why did everyone jump on the pit and stop bothering with the stafford?

Blanch i hope not, i mean today the amount of prats with out of controll dogs proves the dda didnt work. Stop peddlers imo who choose to breed dogs rather than work for aliving. Funny how abroad you can have breeders as a choosen career yet over here the people who do this just ruin the dogs selling to like minded people.

its all over the news now about how theyre gonna amend the dda because dog attacks are up so realistically it cant be good can it?
  10. gog123

    gog123 Top Dog

alot of animal right groups are against dda...that said they havent done any of the dogs any good in the past.

I already have an idea i think will work troule is so do others and no one listens lol

people always say there are not very many game bred staffies. What I wounder is how do you know this, seems most people that say this are from N-America.I dont know but Iam sure that in the UK that there is a lot of underground stuff going on .Just food for thought.

This opinion probably originated with people of the past who matched dogs all over... got journals and story lines from back east or seen footage of videos of more ABPT's being matched out that way than staffords. That would be my guess... americans do travel just as much as anyone else, especially people that are heavily into dogs.

The well bred dogs of the UK can compete at any level, but APBT's are banned in the UK, as well as anything refered to as pitbull type.

there are a lot of very good staffords in the UK that would make a believer out of anyone, but you got to visit and see them for yourself. the thing is that they are almost not existant here in the US and if there are some they can be counted with one hand. there's a lot of breeders in the states but they're far from what they suppose to look and act like.

thats exactly what i though, alot of breeders in america but yet to find an american site with really athletic staffords. Would have thought some americans would give the breed a chance and import a good example.

the dangerous dog act in britain refers to "pit bull terrier type" so the authorities can still sieze staffordshire bull terriers that their "experts" decide are pit bull type dogs.all of this confusion regarding names of breeds only helps them I.m.o..things are tightening up here in ireland as well, this new dog breeding act john gormley is trying to bring in should have people very worried(if u have 5 bitches aged over 4 months= you are a breeding establishment).Donedeal.ie now refuse to advertise apbts or staffs or amstaffs on the advice of I.s.p.c.a.it is still legal to own all 3 types in south of ireland.hes a very sneaky man ,wont overtly ban hunting, greyhound coursing/racing or bull breeds but trying to make it impossible for their enthusiasts to operate.probably not even one puppy farmer will be put out of buisness by this law,

i think the op purpose was to ask what the difference between an amstaff and a dog that has the " ADBA Look" but is only bred for the show ring. both show dogs just different looks.

let me know if im wrong veigas
  19. viegas703

    viegas703 Top Dog

Your closer than anyone else is. This is a pretty hard question to ask, i guess. I just see so many people refer to so many dogs as Amstaffs that i would consider and APBT. I see many great looking dogs that have the ADBA look and i see people calling them amstaff so its really confusing to someone like me, whose new to the game. Im starting to make my own definition i guess and from what ive read its basically if the dog isnt gamebred, regardless of how it looks, is at the end of the day and AmStaff. Thats from what ive gathered on this site alone.
