after reading over all the recent threads i figured a good topic that would benifit many here using supplements would be: what is the right time to use supplements such as vertex, rf-1 and various similar mixes? thoughts and opinions.

My take? As soon after working the dog as you can get them into the dog. And not risk bloat. I feed as soon as the dog has cooled down and mix the supplement with the feed.

Of course I haven't gotten the results some have so there might be a better way to do it.

  3. I would feed the supplements about 4 hours before working them. I would feed them regular kibble after their cool off period. The supplements will have been absorbed by the body which means a energy-boosted dog ready to perform at its fullest while working. Since the supplement is highly digestible, there would be no strain on the stomach. Feeding regular kibble after their workout and cool off period will give your dog of satisfaction, accomplishment. It worked hard and got a nice reward, its kibble. :D

Within 30min after workout. That's when the body is craving nutrients and will suck them up the best.

complete the workout. rub the dog down for 15-20 minutes. pushing the 'old' blood out of the muscle tissue, allowing the 'new' oxygenated/nutrient carrying blood to the muscle. the body will replenish from here. do nothing and the body will replenish from itself...supplement now and the body will assimilate a higher percentage of what you put in. miss this thirty minute window and they piss and shit a large percentage of what you supplement. s.

I use RF-1 and I agree with Rock Star, within 30 min of finishing the workout. Remember, proper recovery and nutrition are key. I never work mine two days in a row, they're always ready to work, and never stale or weak from being overworked during the show.
