Why didn't Bullyson get picked up??? Most of you won't like to hear the reason. Those men were fighting dogs. Sure, Bullyson was a hot number, but try to understand that at that time he was in a way "just another really good dog" with a great reputation but not the legend he is today in hindsight. He didn't get picked up cause it was a fight and these men had the mentality they are to fight and there are other good dogs on chains for "next winter" if this one don't go. Men used to WANT to see if the dog is going to quit, let him do it in the pit. I owned dogs right off Bullson and loved em and stopped Bullson dogs. Same goes for direct sons of "legends" like Bolio, Bull, Snooty, Stompanato, Tombstone, Jeep, Jimmy Boots, etc. They were good dogs to be used or beat depending on who owned them. But at that time they were just good dogs out of the current crop to pick from, If they coudn't win they were picked up but if it looked like they were going to quit, it didn't matter how well bred it was, they could stay down to stop or surprise me.
Sure they thought a lot of Bullyson, but even they questioned the "god statis" we stick on him, remember Bullyson paid a forfeit to Ed Weldon and the Jimmy Boots dog.
