Got a tail chaser on my hands, he's showing good signs but his tail chasing is out of control. He'll chase it for hours on end and when he does catch it, you can bet hes chewing on it.

Hate to dock the guys tail, but its my only option. Any one else here got tail chasers on their yard?

Sounds like either your dog has a psych problem or he's really really bored.

I just dropped one off at the vet's to be docked. A short tail is not the end of the world. But the complications from chewing can be a mess. This will be my second docked dog and the first left nothing to be desired as a bulldog. He was the most athletic and agile dog in my yard and could dance like no other.

What is your reasoning behind this dream pits? Just curious. Cos i've had man biters and Ive had a few tail chasers and they were exactly that either a tail chaser or a man biter. Nothing in between. Tail chasing could be boredom, anxiety, pshycological stress or even bad habbit picked up from shelters etc. I personally have never seen a link between a tail chaser and a biter and ive had a few of each.

I would really try to find the reason of such behavior before cutting something from the dog! I had a bleeding tip of the tail problem and that's what people told me "dock the tail!". And you know what helped? A course of vitamin and mineral supply...

While you work on trying to figure out why the dog is chasing it's tail (excess energy, boredom, actual medical issues ) try putting some bitter apple on the end of the tail. It may help take some of the satisfaction out of the dog capturing it.
