No, you won't be seeing a pit here again.

To reiterate, we would like the members, the posts and the threads to focus on dog discussion.

The pit promoted dissension amongst members, and drove members away. Our objective here is to keep our good members and to encourage them to post, not make them so scared that if they say the wrong thing, someone is going to publicly confront them with personal attacks.

The pit lacked complete professionalism, tact and ethics, and encouraged members to participate in school yard drama that carried over into the main forum.

A part of the forum where members could go and publicly call out other members. It got real ugly in there, and juvenile as well. Personally I'm pleased it was done away with.

i miss it sometimes. juvenile in the pit is better than juvenile on the threads.

True, but I figure why not take it to PMs? I think people just enjoyed publicly humiliating others and after a while it became an ego thing. There were certain people who were entering the Pit every other day ragging on someone new lol

  8. The most brutal thing ever to be on a forum. lol. i would have at least like to have seen the carnage.

It was juvenile at times,(but fun, lol)but I agree with Woody,it's better there than in the threads.Besides, some people need to be publicly humilated. It's nice to be able to call someone to the pit when they just constantly go on and on about something stupid. I kind of miss it.I don't think it promoted dissension among members, there was already dissension or they wouldn't of called them out.I don't think the pit ever drove anyone away that didn't need it.In any group, some people just don't fit in.

Sometimes it really did serve a purpose imo i sorted some of the wheat from the chaff.
Also on occasion ppl met in the middle and got the air cleared. never personally called anyone myself but I could see its benefit.

now it seems threads are just closed down when ppl disagree which can only leave ppl feeling frustrated, yes it is a dog forum but ppl are ppl and have personalities of there own so a place to iron out issues is a good thing imo.

Another good point. A lot of threads get closed, and it gets irritating though I'm sure staff will give their reasons for this now...

Here's a copy of our rules.

Here's an excerpt from said rules:

    1. ...Moderators sometimes have to make difficult judgment calls, but remember we *are* human (well at least most of us are!) Hopefully we'll make decisions that are considered "correct" by the majority of the community. Do not post complaints, criticisms, or moderation questions on the forum. These posts will be deleted and no explanation will be given. If you have a concern about a particular moderator, send a private message to an Administrator. And if you have constructive suggestions on improvements that can be made to the forum or its moderation, please post them in the Suggestions area.
    2. Keep in mind that this is not a democracy. We have the right to refuse service to anyone. If you make yourself too big of a pain in the butt to the moderating community or otherwise are a bad influence on the forum, your access may be revoked.
    3. This is not a flame war site, so please do not engage in such. No distinction will be made between the instigator and those who merely participate.
