sounds like a smart move. do be sure to check your hardware on a daily basis and invest in a sturdy collar=Stillwater is who i would recommend. with this breed DA is common and it's a trait we, as owners, have to deal with: can't "love, train or wish it away". it just is. this breed also has a high prey drive so heads up on the cat as well. once she gets used to a routine, (being on a cable or chain set-up) it's what she'll come to know and will hopefully grow to accept it, with few issues.
maintaining a multidog household is do-able, but damn it's a LOT of work and requires constant supervision. not something i'd recommend for a novice. doesn't take much to get them fired up! with you, being new to the breed, keeping her seperated will most likely be your best & safest bet.
golden rule: never trust them not to fight.
welcome to the world of bulldogs! ;)
    good luck!

Hey, I think you know that this probably isn't the breed/dog for you/your needs/your situation. So, be fair to all the people and dogs involved and ask about help placing the dog instead of all the run-around. There is no shame in placing a dog that doesn't fit your life. Often, folks end up doing more harm to themselves and the dog by playing martyr than by just doing a little soul-searching and a couple of home visits and interviews. Rotating dogs is one thing, but I get the feeling that the combination of your breed inexperience, a shih tzu, a cat, a mother who might not appreciate the risk, plus the work schedule,.....will probably mean some dead critter along the way. Put up a pic, put up some info, see what folks can help you with,...there's a rescue/adoption section,...avail yourself of it.

In my experience with my female APBT named Sierra, she would show aggression towards larger dogs. Yet, a six pound Chiuaha could literally attack her and she would just paw him over. In my opinion, she would be safe with smaller dogs based on what I have read. Also, alot of female APBT's don't care for other, larger female dogs. However, at four years old I had to put Sierra down because of aggression towards small children. Yet, she would not harm a small dog or a kitten. Keep her separated from the larger females and see how she does with the males. I'm certain she will do fine with your mom's dog.

crate/rotate or put out a nice chain spot and dog house. if it'll be in a yard with other loose dogs, for god's sake fence off the chain spot. otherwise you'll end up cleaning the other dog off your walls, and your mother won't be happy.

there is NO fix for that, don't fool yourself or you'll be a statistic.

thanks for trying to set up an accident!

oh btw, a trolley cable will be an epic failure if you plan to keep your bulldog on it day in and day out. i've seen very few pics and one man's yard in person that used them, but it wasn't a novice setup. do yourself and the dog a favor and use the search function to find out about a proper chain set up and dog house plans.

in all honesty.........either get rid of the dog or invest in a kennel/dog run. it isnt impossible, just a pain in the ass to manage.

Yeah and make sure it is a HEAVY DUTY Kennel and not those cheap weak ass shit jack in the box commercialized kennels, like some people have on this site like in that thread yard set ups? or indoor? topic, those are the type of kennels NOT to buy.

    agreed.
to corvettedex, thing is,No one can be 'certain' of anything. Nothing is a guarantee and especially with this breed, despite what you may or may not read.
to the OP, be ready and prepared for them to scrap with each other. then when they do, you won't be caught off guard.
imo, invest in a breakstick and a good chain set-up

what part of the yard will your moms dog go to the bathroom? where your dog is chained? I wouldn't risk the chance of an accident. your mom could slip and cause one to happen. tough situation. it wouldn't take much for a little dog to get killed/mauled by a bulldog. the decision needs to be made by you on what will be best for everyone.

either way it's a gamble for you or who ever gets the dog (if you give it away).

  16. Some of the worst advice I've seen in the past few months. Just the kind of thinking we don't need in the breed.

Tell your mom to lose the dog. That was simple lol. If that doesnt work give your APBT plenty of exercise and im taking 2+miles a day at the least. Dont just walk down the block or street and turn back if your lazy and can't do that strap her up to the treadmill. Doing this is in no way cruel, it would be cruel to take the dog to a pound to get put to sleep because of ignorance of the APBT. A tired APBT is a better a dog to have in the house than a non worked energetic APBT. Do all of this and introduce the dogs gradually with a muzzle on the APBT Bitch. If the dog rushes the other dog it will have the muzzle on, so nothing to much will happen. Eventually if you see things are safe and have knowledge of the situation remove the muzzle with caution. A PITBULL WHETHER GAME BRED OR NOT ARE NOT ALL VICIOUS DOG KILLERS, JUST BE AWARE OF THE HISTORY OF THE DOG AND NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE. Get your self a Kennel from you local Tractor Trailor Supply(the welded wire one nothing cheap safety is key) and place a kennel roof over it. This provides shade and also stops the dog from jumping over.

I'm with BB and Crisis, put her up for adoption and let someone else take care of her. Give her to someone who is willing to focus on her and not be so worried about having more than 1 dog.
