I have 3 mayday dogs at home, only one turn out to be what I expected, so now... looking for the other line, and these 2 lines seem to be a good one/

what's ur opinion on Sorrell ...... or......... eli bloodline?

    regarding gameness?
    wind, endurance, wrestling ability?
which one would u go for?

also... this last question might sound a little stupid, but which line is friendlier? [IMG] (only cause I have kids at home, so wouldn't hurt to have a friendly ones)

I've owned Eli dogs for a while, bred down from the Maverick strain. Eli dogs are known to be hard mouthed barnstormers, but like in any line you'll get some curs & cold dogs as well. But oddly enough the curs & cold dogs in the Eli line seem to produce well.

In my experinces they are often high-strung. Due to the high-strung tendencies you have to watch them in the hunt as some will do anything to get back at a hog they've caught. This includes throwing themselves down & rolling around, screaming & foaming. If this doesn't work some will even nip you. Once in the hunt they've got one thing & one thing only & that is to catch. But many are also not the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree & often one-dimentional in a hunt.

They are athletic dogs but wind varies.

B/c they are often very energetic, Eli dogs are a dog that needs something to do. If you don't keep them occupied they tend to become barky & destructive.

I've found w/ Eli dogs a rotation of busy balls, kongs, knuckle bones & excercise are a must if you want a quiet dog & happy home. If not they will bark to hear themselves speak & when they become tired of that they will chew anything they can get their mouths on, to include pails, houses & even fencing!

But on the up side, they're very sweet & great w/ kids. Their size is often user-friendly, being anywhere from 38lbs to 48lbs OTC. They also have tons of heart w/ an average to above average mouth.

Of course, this is just my synapsis from my personal experinces w/ the Maverick strain of dogs. Others may have had different experinces.

As for Sorrells dogs, I don't can't speak on them as I've never owned one. But I've heard nothing but good things about them in all aspects.

    Hope this helps! :)

This is one of the best, most detailed answers to a question like this I've ever seen on this board. All too often when someone ask a question like this they get a version of "all that matters is how they do in the []". I think this might be due to people wanting to discourage people getting game-line dogs as pets since that goes bad so often. People get more dog than they can handle and the dog gets dumped. But the information is still good info because people DO get game line dogs as pets, and better they know the ins and outs of various lines before doing so.

By the way this is second hand but..... there have been a few Sorrels dogs that have won some very advanced obedence and woking titles, so at least some of them must be pretty smart.

Eli blood proved to be one of the most hardmouthed pit to be bred today. One the problem of Eli blood is wind. Correcting this problem by means of outcrossing it with Jeep blood will do the trick. I never had any sorrells blood but I can say that Eli blood has a good temperament.

Both are good lines. The sorrells dogs are rougher then eli dogs but the eli ones have more mouth. I believe that the sorrells have better consistancy with gameness. And mouth does pop in regulary with the sorrells stock. That just me maybe people have different opinions. Btw take a look at my gallery i got some sorrells crosses in there.

    ive got some double bred skull dogs and they are the best dogs in my yard they start early have it all game,wind,mouth,and are very smart,and the roughest dogs you'll prob find,just like the eli blood sorrells got several diffrent sorrell's dogs some are good confermation dogs but are curs and then agian some are rough but these dogs seem to be short winded {all that ive owned and seen}

not saying you wont get a good one but if ur looking for a performance sorrell's dog contact mr sorrells my budy asked him specifecly for a performance dog and he got one of the best ive seen in a wile but dogs he breeds for performance tend not to produce consistent good dogs i know this from ex
