Well i am going to start the build on my first slatmill and im going to use the metal conveyor wheels for the sound during morning feeds and evening yard work. Ive picked up some 2x2 square tubing and ordered my go cart wheels but was wondering about the belt. Should i go with the pvc type, food grade or the neoprene? Also thinking about teak for the slats or should i go with a softer wood and why?

I'm going to start building my own here soon too we should keep in touch. I was guna use some metal square tubing to weld for the frame, or just make one outa wood. Then use some rollerblade wheels bolted to a wood rail or something. For slats i'm just going to use maple prob. Or just something mid grade, not too expensive or not too cheap. Oak would be nice. Then for the end rollers i was thinking of using wheels off of a lawn mower or something. And my dog aint runnin 45mph so i would go with neoprene for the belt material. It's quieter and will still move at a decent speed. Fire hose on top of the neoprene will speed it up but it's also much louder. But lets keep in touch man and share ideas.

Ill throw some pictures up as i go and keep in touch for sure. I live out in the country and the noise of the mill will only make me smile and maybe upset the ole lady from time to time so im going with the steel wheels. Ive built a strong carpet mill out of wood so i think you can make a good one out of it if you secure it right. Keep me posted bukskin

    About RPMillmaker...
What is the big difference between their standard slatmill and their 'killer spinner'? Besides the cost price...

TopBox for the belt go PVC or Firehose

Littleboy the difference between the two is the regular slat has skateboard wheels and the belting is heavier , the killer spinner has steel skate wheels which are fatser but louder and lighter belting

Use what you want. Wood might be easier for most people to work with but metal is a lot more solid and makes a lot better product in the end that will last a life time if taken care of.

I am going with the metal for sure and im also thinking about cedar for the slats...now the slate mill ive always seen used had slats 2 inches wide instead of the 3 1/2 i see alot of now. I am going with the 2 inch by 3/4 inch thick

3/4" thick will male the belt very heavy.....i would lighten them up to a 1/4....just made some from Lowe's...red oak....got one piece that is 6"X48"...got six slats per board....a cabinet shop that deals in bulk could be even cheaper.....belt weight is key to free spinning and smooth operation....US1

Well its a start. Cut the slats 13 1/2 inches and they are 2 inches wide. I 45ed them on the top edges and will weld together the frame tomorrow...i ordered the other parts (wheels, conveyor rails, bolts and belt) from a couple of links from a thread on here. No but ill be more than willing to tell you how i came up with it. im trying to build this thing for under 500. Im at 380 right now and all i have left to buy are the bolts for the slats and decide what i want to do for the sides. So im seeing under 450. Been wanting a slat for a long time but every time i think i want to spend the money for one i keep in mind the ole carpet mill and a dog instead.
