I am building my own slatmill even though i know it would be easier and probably cheaper to buy BUT I am an amateur fabricator and will enjoy the process. As of right now my biggest question is steel conveyor wheels vs skate wheels ... I see the killer spinner uses steel conveyor wheels vs the skate wheels if noise isnt a factor do the steel wheel rolll better/faster? Question #2 is about possible slat rock and the distance between wheels ... if i used 70mm inline skate wheels I would have to space the wheel about 3" on center if i do a single row ... with 2" slatts would this cause too much rock? BTW i am using 30mil polycarbonate film (another diy slatmill on here used 20mil and had an amazing mill)

I made mine with 53MM skateboard wheels. it is a little more surface area and I guess a little more drag that inline wheels or steel skate wheels.

I watched the videos of the mill in the above thread. That guy knocked it out of the park. It looked and spun world class. I used a PVC belt, it is thin, I will look for the measurement.

I made the slats from oak and they were 2 1/8th" wide and 3/8" thick. It did not have much slat rock at all at that length with the 53mm wheels. I only used one row of wheels per side.

My two biggest mistakes is I added to much heat when I was welding and drew the frame in a little. At the time I did not catch it and when I tried to center the wheels/belt and axle it tracked and did not spin as I thought. I was re-checking and found I was more narrow on one end than the other. I cut it in half, tacked it to the correct measurements and re-welded.

I went to a thinner PVC belt and I ended up with 7-8 rotations per hand pull. I was happy.

I will post the video and check the measurements on the belt.

.050 PVC belt. Thin but still holding up really well.
