Slat Mill Restoration

Discussion in 'Photography, Artwork & Videos' started by BoogiemanBlood, Aug 25, 2012.

  1. Bought this old mill. Paid way too much for it lol. It needed tons of work.

Not too sure what was going on with the brace that was cut too long and not welded at all on one end lol
    [IMG]

The rollers were in great shape and welded in perfect. :)

This axle bracket had been broken and whoever the genius was that attempted to weld it had it in so crooked lol. It was about 1 1/2" lower than the other side and about 1" farther out than the other side lol

So both axles and axle brackets were cut completely off and new axles made and brackets made. Here's how it spins with the old ragedy belt on it still. Now it barely moved when I got it, so this is amazing hehe CLICK ON THE PIC TO SEE VIDEO :)

    Sand blasted it all today

Then paint :) Putting another coat of paint on tomorrow.

Have all my slats cut and belts made and ready. If I get all the slats stained and sealed tomorrow I may start putting it together. Probably be Sunday or Monday though. Can't wait to see how it looks and runs when it's done. The old belt actually tracks on the wooden slats because the thin ass rubber on the bottom is all fucked up. So I'm sure the new belt will do wonders for it too.

Hey Boogie, do you have any recent pictures?

  12. I'm going to put some up soon. I have the new belt together. Will put up some pics today. Waiting on the wheels to get here. Getting new bearings pressed into the hubs. I think they will be done today. I hope to have it back together and done by the weekend.

  13. Finished the new belt a little while ago. Here is a side by side comparison of the new vs old one. I'm now at the mercy of waiting on the new wheels to get here. Should be able to get it together rather quickly once the parts arrive.

That looks great! You put a lot of work into it!

I've decided to leave mine all original. I like it all old looking, and the darn thing still works!

God Danm put some work in that looks good

  16. That was kind of actually my plan here too. Sand the slats to get them smooth and no splintering wood and such, but things were just so fucked up it was too far gone. :( I just don't do shit half assed so now it will be a Cadillac lol. It will still be a little old school with the steel wheels though :)

Thanks :) If these new wheels would get here I could have the damn thing back together!!!!!!! First thing I ordered, gonna be the last thing that gets here. :(

Looks real good. Do you know who it was made by? By any chance?

  18. I have no idea who made it. I just know the area it came from. therealjudge may know who made it. I know he knows of some dogs conditioned on it. Dream Pits may have some info on it too idk.

Is that a jig that you made beside the new belt to keep the slats square when you mounted them to the belt?
