very nice. i also love Hogue grips. they tend to "grab" clothing, so you gotta watch out if youre carrying ;)

I've been looking into getting that Ruger LCR. I carry, but I get tired of carrying full size stuff. I've been using my buddy's CZ .380 since it's so easy to. Though not my choice of caliber, a .380 on me is better than a 9mm on the night stand.

im on a gun forum that has a couple members who have been beating the piss out of them LCPs and LCRs and they are holding up to a high volume of very hot ammo. i cant imagine its much fun shooting them that much tho:eek:

I figured they would be pretty durable. It's like a GLOCK revolver. But, I would also think it would start to suck after about 20rds or so. I've only ever handled one and they are super light.

considering picking up one of the new ultra tiny .380s everyone seems to be making now. with the rise in popularity, ammo manufacturers have not only increased production of ammo, but a few new loads are coming out that should perform pretty well. the federal hydra shock load(i believe a 90 gr bullet) is clocked at 1000 fps with 200 lb/ft of energy within 15 yards. besides, the Ruger/Diamondback/Kahr/Sig 238 all are about the size of a wallet and a couple of em seem to have decent sights. thats my argument to the ol lady to justify buying one.:D its all over her head, so i'll get a "whatever" response and i'll be off to the show. gotta love income tax returns, even if mine isnt jack squat this year

off topic kind of, but anyone else ever make ballistic gel?

i made two batches with the help of the equipment and walk-ins at work in two 30 gal plastic tubs. they turned out well, even though it took three days to complete. i'm not saying i did it to a research facility's capacity and that it's as accurate of a portrayal of what the effects of ammo really is on human flesh, but it was fun.

we got out this weekend with them and left the trap at home when we took our shotguns out. my in-law brought several of his pistols out to the shoot house out back of their property. needless to say i was impressed at the penetration some small caliber handguns were capable of at the same distance as a .40 and .45 (reaffirms my belief and what i've read about carrying a 9mm). we used one for sidearms and one for shotguns.......the one vs the 590 and my buddy's 870 didn't last very long.

we didn't pack a camera with us but if either of them are intact when i go back to get them i'll try and remember to take some pics to post. if it's not all melted in the bottom of my in-laws chest fridge i want to take what i can back to work to recycle it.

anyone else tried making it or used it? how'd it turn out for you?

i have not, but damn that sounds like fun. a bullets performance is something i have to take the maunfacturers word for, so i shoot for accuracy and call it good. that would definitely be something worth looking into. how did you make it?

google homemade ballistic gel. you'll find sites with directions and videos for a simple version, and some provide more specific directions that help ensure it's going to give you a better picture of the round's capabilities. i read several sites and put together my own instructions based on my experience working with gelatin in food.

here's a good overview and set of instructions - http://www.customcartridge.com/pdfs/BallisticGel.pdf

i used tubs that were rectangular and just cut my bases to transport it after i dumped it out before i started making it. i used red food coloring in the one we used the shotguns on and left the one we shot pistols at clear. also, you'll want to pick up a candy thermometer so you can accurately heat the gelatin after it blooms. we have induction burners at work and 40 gal pots that work with them so i was able to make LARGE batches without worrying about scorching it. and the walk-ins that made it easy to cool and set for two days since we have the floor space.

then we just pinned targets on for the pistols, no real reason for a home defense gun.

i will say we never tried a slug on it, just 000 and 00 shot. and i shot no more than 25 ft away since the longest hall in our home is 20 ft or so.

thanks CK, im gonna have to try it. id like to do some .380/9mm/.38/.357 comparisons.
i'd choose bullet performance over capacity any day, so it'd be nice to be able to justify what i carry daily

i had an ultra cdp II. reliable yes, but you'll have a hell of a time with a stop drill shooting something with a barrel that short. i've never owned or shot any other kimber pistols, but i was really happy with the one i had, just not an as an every day carry pistol. plus with what i paid for it i was always more worried about the pistol than i should have been when i had it on me. i'm more than pleased with my glock 19 and i know my s&w 640 will never jam.

you wouldnt say that if the kimber was full of crud and grime. that glock would run all day long in those conditions.
glock is the AK of the pistol world. fact

if you pay attention to our politicians(most of the Democratic party), and some of the legislation that gets passed, youd realize the majority of the AmeriCan population really isnt as gun crazy as you imply. how are them gun laws in your "nowhere important"? cuz my "nowhere important" as of now is somewhat relaxed on gun control, and i hope it stays that way.

IMO, with modern HP ammo, I prefer round capacity and shot placement. Since my state allows high-cap mags, I carry a 9mm. If I was restricted to 10rds, I'd go with a .45acp. I'm sure everyone has seen this, but it's a nice comparison of how overrated the 9mm vs 40S&W vs .45acp debate is. Pick up what you can shoot cheaply (more practice) and efficiently (hitting what you aim for).
