Should I get a SBT? Title sounds dumb, I know.

Hi, I signed up yesterday to be able to read threads, but decided to post a new one, so people who know more than me (pretty much everyone else on this board) could help me out with my questions. (Didnt post in the introduction section, I pretty much made the intro here)

I never owned a dog before, I started to really like dogs about 6 months ago, educating myself on the basics (pitbulls are not mindless killers, not what the media says they are etc.) I decided Im gonna get a dog, and I really like the bully breeds, however I got some (probably kinda dumb, but bare with me) questions. I would really like to get a staffordshire bull terrier, but Im not sure I could train it right, Im a active person (kick boxing, some weight lifting, running), I can go run with it, make it pull weights, bite on some things etc., so the dog will be getting enough physical exercise. If someone thinks Ill make the dog fight, no I definitely wont, although I would like for it to be able to defend it self if another dog attacks him while taking a walk, I wont leave my dog fighting alone ofcourse but still.
I watched some Cesar Millan and I think to use the methods, I saw there(or at least try to use them), so the dog is obedient and disciplined, comes to me when I call him etc. As I said I never had a dog before, so Im not too confident in my ability to raise it right, I wanna be sure my dog feels good, and will never attack me or someone in the family (no children). Another thing is will I be able to provide it with all the food/supplements/vet visits he needs without spending too much money on it, are SBT's real expensive to look after?
Basicly thats it, the title says it, should I get a SBT or I should choose some other non bully breed for first dog?

Thanks to everyone who red this, my native language isnt English, so I probably made some mistakes.

What do you think snoopdawg would say?

The dog should not have to defend itself that's what you are there for unless you are looking for trouble it a wrong approach. Stafford or not dogs can get expensive in terms of food vet bills proper containment and let's not forgot about the cost of the animal itself. Dogs live 10 years give or take so u only know if u can commit to something that long. Dogs won't always stay young and playful either and it might turn out with bad habits or SOB temper so just be prepared to care for it.

Not looking for trouble, where I live it is possible for the dog to be attacked by another dog (that lives on the street), I know dogs live at least 10 years, I was asking if this breed is prone to some specific health issues, that can cost more than the dog to be taken care of, not saying Ill spend 20 dolars a month on it, just cant handle a dog thats super expensive to take care of.

@bamaman, the real snoop dawg smokes too much weed to be thinking about dogs

Not rushing at all, Ill get a puppy after the holydays (Christmas, New Year), just asking some things to answer my main question, which is: Is a rookie dog lover like me able to raise a puppy from his favorite breed like its supposed to, my main concern is the dog biting/attacking someone from the family, I know any breed is capable of this with bad ownership, but I know bully breeds can do alot more damage. I didnt understand the burnin part

I'd do as bama said and I'd start studying a little more. The search feature at the top right of this page will get you to the answers you're looking for, you just have to read.

Lovely dogs, the smartest dog i've owned, and WAY more pain in the ass than any dog ive owned. But being honest I've never connected with a dog as much as my staff. I will never get a dog other than a sbt, amstaff, apbt and not in any paticular order. Its alot more than a normal dog and you have to be ready to deal with the stigma of what family members/neighbors think of you and your new puppy when it gets older and looks like a body builder, Alot of my girlfriends side of the family is scared of my dog and all give me the list of bad deeds done by pitbulls and dogs confused with pitbulls,

This breeds needs exercised everyday and a schedule with greatly benefit a dog like this.

If you spend the right money upfront on a good dog with proven health it will save you down the road.

imo Terriers are a hard breed to start off with .It doesnt matter if its SBT or APBT.Terriers are not submissive animals .Very dominant once they reach a certain age.I am talking working terriers and it makes no difference which one.

In my honest opinion SBT or APBT are not starter dogs. What may not be a big deal with some breeds could result in jail time with these breeds. There are lots of breeds out there. Within these breeds are dogs that cover the span of easy train to hard headed. Couch potato to insane aggression. Out of these breeds with exception to the other guardian type dogs are all better choices for a first time owner. There is nothing wrong with knowing there is something about a breed u like but at the same time understanding u may not have the knowledge or experience to handle it properly. U can't learn how to handle dogs solely off videos. The learning curve can be very harsh.

I do have a question for u. What is it about the staffy that makes u want one. What do u expect out of ur staffy. Are u willing to put ur pride aside to do what is best for a breed.

The answers to these questions if answered 100% truthful will tell a lot .
