Yes, you're right about that. Very peaceful out there! It's the total opposite of what I grew up hearing. I sit there in the morning and listen to the birds chirping while I burn my gas. Very nice feeling.

Hughes net sucks ass! Daily limit of like 750 MB of high speed. Easiest way I found was to buy extra GB on phone and use as hotspot for laptop, but mostly I just use phone.

I talked to one company that didn't have a daily limit, they had a monthly limit of 18gb, but it was about $40 a month

Treez get you some gourds man ..Put a whole in them and use them for bird houses about 10 of them and hang them on a pole about 12 to 16 ft...You can get them all on one pole ..like 5 on one side and 5 on the other side..You will get some Martins in your yard then.I love to watch them catch insects in the evenings.

Bama, that's one thing we are excited to do is put up some bird feeders and watch all the birds come. Will be really nice. Thanks for the idea.

Yes, I've heard nothing good about Hughesnet and unfortunately that is one of our only options. The only cell network that gets service where we are is AT&T and their internet is expensive AF.

Yea that's cool Treez...don't have to feed martins they are very good at catching insects.but do have a couple feeders in the front for other birds and squirrells..Dogs like to watch them to.

This set up looks good. Broadband Q Wireless | Keeping America Connected!
Its over a hundred a month, so its not cheap. If it works well and is unlimited, an internet phone service could be ran off the computer to make up for some of the cost (something like magic jack).

With a wind speed of 25 mph and 4 6 volt batteries (for a 24 volt system) will get you 600 watts of juice I believe. Its about $2,000 for everything (windmill, inverter, batteries, etc.). The windmill starts making electricity at 5, or 6 mph.

seems to be the cheapest way to run a generator. The can be combined with a second generator of the same size for over 3,000 total watts. Add on a fuel transfer container so you cut back on having to refuel by over 60%.

Add some rain catchers/pond if needed and a few solar panels and your dialed.
I saw some cooking pots from Japan that store energy (up to 8 watts) in a battery when you use them. They were $150 or so a pop, but really cool!

Propane for cooking and heat looks like an affordable and convenient way to go (with out taking your electricity). Propane/solar refrigerators and freezers are getting better (still not cheap).

I hope this info helps, or at least give you something to think about.

Oh and supposedly, for battery power (ie solar/wind/or just DC battery)
24 volt is better than 12 volt
4, 6 volt batteries are better than 2, 12 volt batteries.
