Ruined??

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by ABK, Feb 12, 2007.

  1. Breeding for gameness means not breeding the most dogaggresive dogs. Many dogs are( in terms of percentage)much more dogaggresive but by far NOT as game......

Woman don't tell all the time and the younger it happens the less likely they are to tell.
My eldest daughter was raped at 15 by her boyfriend and she and I were very close. She was to ashamed to tell me. It is the shame that makes women keep it inside. The last people they want to know is their family. It took my daughter 20 years before she could tell me and this is quite common.
If you are a man I doubt no matter how close you are to your female relatives if you would know unless they went to the police and only a small percentage of rape victims ever go to the police.

    How true.

Old Timer, it has been found that 1 in every 3 women has been molested. And these numbers were only taken from those who reported the abuse. The numbers might be higher if they had a more accurate count to go on.

The sad, bad fact of the matter is, molestation is not rare. In fact, it's pretty common.

And Phebes is right about not telling. I personally know a woman who was too ashamed to tell her own mother when she was going through abuse as a teen. The only way the mother found out was when she confronted the child. The abuser sometimes threatens the victim to keep them quiet or more often, they make the victim feel like it's their fault so the victim feels so ashamed & dirty that in some cases they literally die rather than tell.

So don't think it's not around you. It likely is, you just don't know it.

That being said, let's get back to the dogs ...

let's keep this thread on topic as well.

    a dog being ruined
and women as victims of rape, imo, are not related.
    Thankyou

Well I am only at page 22 now after spending all my free time today reading this thread.
There are so many posts I am just chomping at the bit to reply to.
But my mother in law was rushed to the hospital Monday night and will be moving soon to a nursing home and in the middle of this I am having eye surgery in a few days. Much running back and forth between 2 differet hospitals.
Just hope thread is still here when I can jump in LOL

Just an update - put the pup back outside today. Her lip is looking better & I just put her in an area where it's harder for the neighbor to see her.

She must be feeling better, she's been out there zinging at the end of her runner & barking at everything that goes by her kennel almost all afternoon.

Wow! I made it to the end.
ABK- glad to hear the dog is doing better. I hope everything turns out well with her and that she bounces back from all this twice as hot.
Now for Lovebeingme You have your opinions and I have mine and we'll agree to disagree, but I think that you are missing one very important point. This breed of dog that you so love, the APBT, what is it that you love about it? You love how much they love you, right? You love how loyal they are and how friendly they are. Well that's the package you get when you breed for gameness. In my opinion that is part of gameness. These dogs were bred for gameness above all else. And with that gameness came all the things you love. Now if you think that the APBT will continue to be all the things you love without the things you don't care much for I think you are sorely mistaken. This was the dog America loved and they loved it the most when it was still bred to do what it was bred to do. Again just my opinion others opinions may be different and yo are entitled to that I just want you to think about what I said here.

After reading this thread IMO there is a wide gap between the types of owners of APBT.
The group who believe the dogs have a job to do and the group who believe the dogs should be protected and loved.
I don't know where I belong because I agree somewhat with both groups.
I find nothing wrong with culling. In 1973 a friend of mine's mutt dog had pups one night, when they were all born everyone was admiring them and my friend asked what I thought and I told her to flush them down the toilet. She was outraged and asked me why? I told her they were all mutts and would have very bad lives and she would be doing them a favor if she just would drown them. As it turns out I was right, none of them lived beyond the age of 2.
I don't believe dogs should be bred just to see what you would get.
I think there is way to many litters born to members of this forum considering the over population of pit bull type dogs in this country. If you have a litter a year or every 2 years that seems fine (only if you have exceptionally bred dogs) but if you are having 3, 4, 5 or more a year then you are adding to the problem.
I also think a dog has a job to do. Every dog I have ever owned has been an exceptional watch dog, not yipping little dogs but dogs that can back up their bark. That is why I own dogs, I lived a few months years ago without a dog and I felt like one of my senses had been taken from me. No one has ever gotten within 100 ft of my home without me knowing about it day or night. I know as a rule APBT are not good watch dogs but all of mine are, except Duds and he is useless. But I love him :) I also own lots of guns and live in the woods. No one sneaks up on me.
Also there is no way I could ever see a retriever jumping in an icy pond equal with a APBT getting it's face ripped off in a fight.
Anyone evolved in rescue is never, no matter how you try to explain it, going see dog fighting as alright.

OH earlier in the thread someone replied to one of my posts asking how humans fighting could be inhuman....I wasn't refering to humans when I said "They are all equally inhumane" I was refering to dogs, cocks, mantis and any other animals humans use to fight as a sport.
Personally if humans want to step into a ring or an arena to beat the $hit out of each other they can go for.

Hello Phebes. I hope all is well w/ your family.

You are a strange, strange woman. And I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean that in a strange way. ;)

You think we should cull mutts, but not dogs who don't fit standard? Mutts won't have good lives? That is some of the most asinine drivel I have ever read. (OK the most asinine I've ever read today anyway.)

I had a Chow/Lab mix & he lived to be 11. He had a wonderful life. And I'm sure there are MANY ppl out there who also have mutts who loved to be a ripe old age & who had wonderful lives.

As for breeding, ALL breeders breed to see what they'll get. A show CH.? A pull CH? A weight pull Ace? No one knows ahead of time what they'll get. If only it were that easy!

I agree that every dog has a job to do. Huskies pull sleds. AB bring down hogs. Pekes warm laps. But you can't take a dog like an APBT & expect it to act like a Japanese Chin.

As for the retriever/pit bull comparision, firstly, have YOU jumped in an icy lake over & over for hours on end? Have you seen then bust ice w/ their chins & paws, bloodying them?

Secondly, you are being a drama queen. Rarely are dogs' "faces ripped off." Usually the most damage a dog sustains is a few bite wounds & some swelling. They don't even sustain the latter if they have to good aftercare.

As for other types of animal fighting being inhumane, I didn't even know they fought mantis. Are you guys talking about the insect, right?

Hey ABK, she is right. It is inhuman, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT HUMANS!!!!

  16. If I remember correctly it's big in Thailand and Burma. It's actually pretty interesting because one will pick the other up and crush it with their freakish strength. Insects > Mammals

Thast is interesting. Dose sanyone have any vids of fighting martis?

I remember one time in Korea a mantis lit on my shoulder. I was in BDUs so maybe he thought I was a tree! lol. Anyway, I saw this big a.. bug w/ these big ole eyes on my shoulder looking at me & I freaked. I am not a bug person anyway, let alone a big a.. bug person. So I went to crush it & all the Koreans I was working w/ about sh.. a kitten. I guess mantis are some kind of special bug to them. To me it's just a big, scary, creepy bug.
