there are dogs out there at 12 months old and some old timers can see what others dont see in a 12 month old pup, and thats a fact !! cant see anyone giving away some thing at 12 months, that may turn good, just my thoughts on this. i would rather put time and money into some thing the same guy says is good !!! just sit back and think about it !!

So would you have passed up on let's say Tudor's Dibo, O' Steven's Homer, or Honeybunch? None of these dogs were remotely ready mentally or physically. In fact, when Honeybunch was put onto a 3 year old brindle bitch, she went limp and just curred out. The guy with the brindle bitch said if he was the owner, he'd shoot her. But came time when HoneyBunch passed her 2nd birthday, she became a demon. Even old timers make mistakes.

Nah, young kids won't do it. Infants are the way to go since feeding infants tends to make them blood thirsty lol.

try taping a few kittens to the infants torso and get a five year old and tape the infant to them. now get said 5 year old to run around the yard screaming and see what happens. if the dog doesnt react feed it a steak and try again. no difference?

you my friend own a cur.

I wouldn't just sit on it...

The dog had a NEGITIVE experience...

I'd spend a LOT of time with the dog if you think he has potential. I'd get him working the spring and flirt poles NEXT to HOT dogs. Not wiener dogs, fired up dogs! ;^)

Get a good bond going, and let the pup mature knowing your in his corner. Praise him when you see actions you like.

    Show him POSITIVE experiences.

I'd invest my time into conditioning work, so the dog builds a bond with you, and again when you see fire, praise that fucker so he knows what you want.

Sure some dogs are just stone cold killers and will hit the hog right off the chain having had no interaction whatsoever. Some are emotionally sensitive. One of the best dogs I ever owned NEEDED to be a house dog. He'd mutilate and starve himself on a chain or in a kennel. but bring him in the house, and he was the best dog ever.

but he NEEDED that personal interaction. maybe try doing some "pretty" shows and weightpulls with him. obedience training whatever. if your going to invest the feed and upkeep, I feel invest the time as well.

good advice there minuteman, IMO. nothing builds a dog's confidence more than putting in good quality time and work with him.

    Speaking historically PRE 1976.

The guy who schooled me likes to take a look at them young, but he likes to stop them on a positive note for the young dog if they arent balls to the wall. Then he will put them next to their tester and put their food bowls by each other so the young dog has something to think about. You just have to know what you are doing. If you wanna take a chance then go for it.

    Thanks guys.

I feel that attention to detail and personal interaction with the dogs is what sperates the people with dogs, from "dog men"...

And I'm ALWAYS willing to give something another shot when things "just didn't seem right". I mean heck you've got the time and money into it already, what's a little more to find the truth.

    They're animals, not machines...

I hope the pup works out for ya bud, but if he doesn't then you know it was all ON HIM, you did your fair share. And that's all you can ask of yourself.

    Regards,

    MinuteMan

Damn good post Minuteman. I was told long ago that the dog was made on the yard and not in the box. He is what he is true enough, he is or he aint true enough, but.... think about it. Also what is the dogs bloodline?
Some lines are slower than cold tar while others are not. Impatience is stupidity.
