It was my first bulldog who's hooked up for a big stake of beef and although a fine worker she'd not run the mill at all costs.
I decided to visit Mr.Bullyson for advice as he'd bred the female and hopefully he had all the answers for me I hoped for on my many questions.
While discussing this matter sitting around at Mr Bullyson's table he answered that another solution was just plain swimming the dog.
But this time swimming was out of the question as in my neck of the woods winter was coming down in that time we'd to show, god knows I love that Texas sun a lot but were I'd walk that dog you need a fur coat and firm rubber boots instead a swimming suit and a cowboy hat during that time.
But the question remains how could I beat one who'd run the mill two hours straight 3 days in a row at the end of his keep?, wellbred as well and owned by an good outfit? it was making me nervous and happy at the same time.
What equel 2 hours of running the mill ? was my question, 8 hours of straight handwalking was Mr.Bullyson's reply.
I can do it, as I'm in between jobs, plenty of time to go ahead… was going around in my brain.
I was young, reckless,in great shape and I guess a bit stupid as well with a great love for dogs with the real deal bulldogs as my big time favorite.
Aren 't you pulling my leg ? I answered in disbelief, as Mr.Bullyson was a wellknow practicer of jokes I didn't took his reply serious instantly but hell the man was serious as an old dogman can be.
So this was my duty, walking the dog up from an half hour a day till a hour a day for a couple of weeks then starting up serious by walking two hours a day for a couple of weeks, walking all times 6 times a week, one day rest, then 3 hours for a week, then 4 hours for a week, then 5,6,7...then 8 hours 3 times in a row and 3 days rest, wow, I thought I was going crazy during the keep, walking the soles of my boots, living in the woods whole day blisters all over, dropping weight like a crackhead with eyes deep sinked in but we did it and dog was all wind and in great great strenght and it was if the another's entry didn't stood any change during the spectacle and then a turn on mine and a quick handle was made and she stood still till the count of ten by thirteen she was over, 3 seconds short.
Wellknow dogman were pissed as our great but sour ended performance costed them more then their gasoline money by betting on us.
After all, it brought me in great shape learned me a lot and all keeps after were a piece of cake and I never walked one again for 8 hours straight after this one.

Tons of good dogs who were hand walked as a staple of the keep.

We had one once we walked in and around two large tobacco fields. He was not the best worker but he would explore when he could. We had a long rope and walked along the wind rows (high fescue type grass that separates large fields). As we walked he jumped in and out of the tall grass.

We would pick up a pocket full of rocks and whenever we tossed one into the grass he would just 'have to' go see what it was.

    He turned out rather nicely.

I did about the same thing as the original writer of the story during a keep. I went from 165 to 147. Size 32 waist to a 28. All that walking while going to the gym 3-4 times a week. On the positive side, I myself got in fighting shape. During the keep, I was tryin to hook MYSELF for a “boxing match” with someone up to 160, or mma rules up to 155 $500 up to 1k. I had no takers but DAMN I LOOKED GREAT(still do)!!! I then tore my Achilles 2 months before Kobe Bryant did...
