Red Nose Pit Bull & Dogo Argentina Mix? Help decide

  1. Red Nose Pit Bull & Dogo Argentina Mix? Help decide

i bought my dog while working in Florida setting up travel trailers for huricane victims. I called every ad in the paper for a blue nose blue brindle but all were sold. I came upon an ad for "Red Nose Pit Bull Puppies $275". I called and he said they had no papers but described the dogs and they sounded like they were good looking dogs so I went to see why he thought he could charge $275 for pups without papers, full shots, chip or anything you might want to come extra with your dog...just your regular healthy pups but need to have vacs immediately. When I arrived I fell in love with my dog on the spot. There was a puppy that looked like a cow(white with big black spots, black nose), sum brindle, sum mostly white with red nose, and sum different color brown ones. His mom was without a doubt a Red Nose Pit Bull and I thought at the time the father was a APBT with a black nose. The male was larger than the female but the females head was wider. jaws seem to come out more than the top of the skull than the male. I had never heard of a Dogo Argentina so couldnt have said it was one at the time but the breed has recently been brought to my attention. I have always said that he showed a lot of mastiff in him. My dog is obviously not full blooded because he does not have the Dogo Argentina's black nose but does have a lot of its qualities and after reading about its temperment and the way it acts, etc....i think its possible i could have a Dogo Argentina & Red Nose Pitbull Mix which doesnt bother me one bit......i would just like some more opinions from people who know more about Dogos and have more experience with Pit Bulls. This is my 4th due to theft, death, and left....if u get that. so i have never owned one past 1yr old...this one is now 1 yr old
please help, here is the link to my gallery:

You know, he definitely could be a Dogo Argentina mix. My good friend had one, and they look SO much like a pit you can hardly tell the difference. Of course, his was full blooded, and just looked like a HUGE solid white pit. By the looks of him, he definitely could be mixed with that. He is gorgeous though, mix or not!

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Dogos carry the recessive trait that would produce the red nose.

That is true, Dogo's only come with black noses, to get a pure dogo with a red nose or any other color nose at that it would have to be mixed with something or just a 1 in a million case

They don't. It would take a Dogo mix carrying the recessive trait bred to a dog with a red nose & then it would just be luck of the draw. Apurebred Dogo & a red nosed APBT could not produce red nosed pups.

It could most definitely be a mixed breed or just a generic pit bull with a long history of poor & thoughtless breeding being bred solely for size & looks to produce a dog like that.

And just for future reference, "red nose" is not a type nor bloodline of APBT. It's nothing more than just words to describe the color of a dog's nose. ;)

As for a blue brindle dog, it's a shame you didn't come on here looking for a rescue. Seems they are so rare someone in the upscale area of New Orleans opted not to take theirs with them when they evacuated. He's with me still looking for a home over a year later.

Poor baby! His owners should be horse whipped!

As for your dog Clyde, as Mia said, it could be a 3/4ths pit bull - 1/4th Dogo mix or it could be the result of a white bluff style dog being bred to a standard pit bull. I know Wicked Kennels was breeding huge white "pit bulls" for a long time. Some of these dogs were huge (100+ lbs ) & had molosser like features. Some were rednosed whites & some were blacknosed whites. I think they are out of business now, but ppl who bought from them still have dogs though.

The father could have been an American Bulldog

he looks alot like a dogo so i dont know.the dogos a very primative hunting breed with strong prey drive and it is a sensitive dog, some are good protectors,is your dog similar to that?.As for the trait of red nose and coat not being able to be carried on to other breeds with the black nose, that very well could be,but how would that explain red nosed bandogges that are so common or whopper dogs?just a honest question...

Bandogges can have red noses b/c both Neos & pit bulls carry it. Whopper dogs have them b/c both French Mastiffs & pit bulls carry it. Dogos do not carry it. AmBulls do carry it though. As HighVoltage said, maybe the father was an AmBull.

Hopefully this may help. This is a pic of a pit bull x American Bulldog mix pup.

he is very protective of everybody in my house and is the biggest baby with us, but he does not like for anybody to come in the house or even step foot on our property....he lets us know if he hears anything. he is a jumper....he will randomly jump vertically onto our kitchen counter. one thing he does when he barks at something is lifts one of his front paws up like a pointer. he also uses his paws when he plays with our other dogs constantly like a boxer. he learns new tricks really easy...i cannot get him to speak though....hes the only one in the house

I think they created the dogo with the help of Pitdog and American-Bulldog blood.....and not like books tell with french mastiff and irish wolfe-houndblood.

The Dogo was created by using the Cordoba Fighting Dog as a base. To the CFD was added ...

The Pointer to give him a keen sense of smell which would be essential for the hunt.

The Boxer added vivacity and gentleness.

The Great Dane for it's size.

The Bull Terrier, for it's fearlessness.

The Bulldog gave it an ample chest and boldness.

The Irish Wolfhound brought it's instinct as a hunter of wild game.

The Dogue de Bordeaux contributed it's powerful jaws.

The Great Pyrenees it's white coat.

    and

The Spanish Mastiff gave it's quota of power.

This was taken from the History of the Dogo Argentino, from the Dogo Argentino Club of America.

Sounds more like the temperament of an American Bulldog.

Whatever he is, raise him right & raise him to be a wonderful example of a 'pit bull' because no matter what he truly is, that is what the general media will perceive him as. :)

Thats definately the truth.....my buddy almost got his boxer taken away because their was a pit bull running loose in his neighborhood.
Pit Bulls are illegal in the county i live in but there are at least 15 within 1 mile of my house and the cops dont seem to care as long as you keep them from getting out....mine stays in the house unless he needs to use the bathroom

A dogo's nose isn't always black...some do not fill in entirely. Some may have brown/red pigmentation (spotting) this is probably a throwback from when the DDB was utilized for a brief time in development of the breed.

You most likely have a dogo mix there.

Here's a pic of my Dogo

Occasionally you have a mottled nose, but that's different from a true red nose.

Nice looking dog there. :) I need to take some current pics of Butch, my 3-legged Dogo. I had some up here but I took them down a while back.

it must be said that although there are red nosed am bulldogs, they are few and far between, and it isnt a desired trait in the dog...
i also belive that from breeding a rednosed apbt to a dog such as this am bulldog
you could get a dog similar to yours, although he does suffer from really bad pigmentation...

  20. Re: Red Nose Pit Bull & Dogo Argentina Mix? Help decide

I read this in a book...like you. But I dont believe it, just think for a minute....how long would it last to breed from these races a white short-haired dog? Think about the different colors and Fur -structures. The Dogo-Argentino is a very young bred and it is my strong believe that he has 50-70 % Bulldogblood(APBT)the rest is white german boxer ,white english bullterrier, American Bulldog (wich had the name Pit-Bulldog at that time) AND MAYBE some Pointer-blood. ......Great Pyrenees his whit coat....lol....dont believe all you read see and hear...use always your own brain.
