G'day all, first of all I have to apologise. Two reasons, been meaning to do intro for a while, but havent really taken updated photo's recently but will be sure to do so soon. Second reason, I know this question has been asked many times but want some direct input on what i'm doing so thanks in advance. Had dogs all my life but got my first APBT 12 months ago & 2nd 9 months ago.Always fed my dogs kibble but around 6 weeks ago switched to raw. Alf my male is around 30kg(big I know but not fat) and Abi is 20kg. Alf gets 750gms a day(250 for b/fast & 500gms for tea) and Abi gets 500 a day(200 for b/fast and 300 for tea). This is their weekly menu
    B/fast , Tea
    Sunday Sardines , Chicken Mince
Monday Lamb Heart, Roo/Lamb/Chicken Mince Combo
    Tuesday Liver , Kangaroo Mince
Wednesday Lamb Heart , Chicken Mince
    Thursday Kidney , Chicken Mince
Friday Lamb Heart , Lamb Mince
    Saturday Lamb Heart ,Chicken Mince

With a couple eggs chucked in there. Any feed back would be muchly appreciated. Also, as they are still young,14 & 11 months I dont exercise them to hard, around 4-5 5kms(3 miles)walks a week with plenty of play in the backyard.

Let me ask you to what benefit is feeding the sardines instead of the fish oil. Is it just for that full satisfied fell in the morning?

I think I would add a couple of tablespoons/dog of clean carbohydrates...like old fashion oats. Perhaps mix them in whole dairy yogurt with a complex carb vege...collards, broccoli.

With the all the protien you are giving them make sure they are getting plenty of water. With their work outs, at their age the carbs will be useful.

I add a little fresh garlic to my RAW...not a lot 2 cloves in feed for two dogs for 7 days as I make in batch.

Blaze - I think the fish oil and sardines serve the same purpose nutritionally....

That's what i thought Thanks Mydawgs. I would use the
fish oil as it's alot more solulable in the system.

no grains or carbs necessary, just meaty bones that are easily chewed up like non-weight bearing bones like chicken backs and necks. Fat is what gives dogs energy so remember that if u plan on working ur dogs. I think ur feeding a good variety, i'm not sure what chicken mince is, explain it to me in a little detail.
What i feed is mainly chicken backs and chopped up venison, i was doing a mixture of veggies in the blender but found that it wasn't doing a damn thing for the dogs so i stopped. They have been on nothing but meaty bones for a few months now and r doin great

Veggies provide vitamin content along with fiber. Depending on what kind you give. I dont think dogs need much fiber though but vitamins are a good idea. If you dont want to feed veggies you can use half of a human vitamin or I just give some Nupro. It is cheaper to give the vitamins. Also if you work your dogs a little lard will give them energy. You are right, dogs do not need carbs for energy. Only fats.

Sardines have too much salt. Canned Jack mackerel is much better and so is salmon oil.

Another fat that helps get dogs lean are MCT's are predigested fats, generally derived from palm or coconut oils. Mct's are quickly absorbed. In fact, within 10 minutes after eating Mct's, they appear in your dog's blood stream, compared to 1-12hrs for other fats.

I was told to feed organ meat only once a week, that was enough.

This guy has a really good source of different kinds of meats. I am jealous. Kangaroo!!! Wow!

I had 4 of mine on raw with a lot of help from this board. But, I got worried because I have a couple of gulpers. Until I get a meat grinder, I am going back to kibble. One of my dogs lost all the luster in his coat. I also had problems regulating their weight. The one bitch with allergies in the only one still on the raw. She chews her food good and her allergies are a lot better.

  12. What if they're fresh sardines?
Fish/salmon oil is an excellent supplement, for both humans and dogs, but a lot of the stuff in supermarkets, health shops and pet stores is rancid oil and that can do as much harm as good.

  13. Heart is usually regarded as meat, even though it's an organ.

Thanks everybody! really appreciate the imput. The sardines are fresh, and then minced. I have a friend who catches a lot of a fish called slimey makarel, i am going to do a bit of research on that species and if it all looks good, use that instead of sardines. As you can tell by its name its a real oily fish. as for the chicken mince, thats just basiclly chicken meat and necks minced up. Kangaroo over here in oz is very readily available and cost around the same as the lamb.

What are the veggies for? I've adjusted the diet a few times in the last few years but now I feed a prey model diet whole rabbits, venison legs, whole chicken. My dogs are in the best shape of their life. regular vet visits and excercise. The only things i add is wild salmon oil. I used to use veggies but after blood test and trial me and my vet came to the conclusion that the veggies are for herbivores lol:D but each dog is different.
