Raising a quiet clean dog in it's kennel

Anyone know of any tips on doing this?

I've got 1 dog who'll piss and shit in his kennel/in his box sometimes half an hour after a walk,he'll also whine and howl at night or if he's bored.

and another who i bought at 9 months who never barks unless there's a person/cat loitering nearby and very rarely messes in his kennel.

obviously they're all different and some are just not as easy to keep but i'm thinking people who've kenneled dogs for a long time may have some helpful tips.

If the dog piss and shit in his kennel after a walk he clearly hasnt been emptied out. Had a pup that had a blatter that would leak for nothing. Just have patience and take the dog out to piss everytime you catch it in the act so the dog understands that its outside he should do this. If it howls at night, go in and tell him to shut the fuck up! Aint to hard these things..

He's 3 and lived in kennel his whole life,i just try and keep him tired, maybe when he gets older he'll change.

I'm just thinking about future dogs.

    keep the shit cleaned up

    get a bark collar

tired bulldogs tend to bark less.....mine do anyways lol

if you consider these factors makin the dog "not an easy keeper"......wait till you get a "hard keeper"...lol

he does empty on walks, still comes home and pisses up the side of his kennel and i do go and scruff him when he whines and he'll shut up for a while.

some dogs are just messy though right?
at least once a week i'll find a turd in his box where he sleeps,i'm not going to be able to see that even if i sit out all day and wait for it!

    this is a lurcher lol

it's not that hard just getting sick of changing bedding and scrubbing out the box and the sides of the kennel pretty much every fuckin day in the vein hope he stops marking them.

i started this thread just wondering if anyone had good tips on how to stop these habits developing, because i can't break them in this dog.

maybe the dog LIVEING in the crate is the whole problem???

it's an outdoor kennel with a box in it for him to sleep in.

it's about 10x16 if memory serves, not just some little crate,i can't have dogs on chains where i live and don't want dogs in the house.

You just gotta train yourself to like to do that shit....as twisted as it sounds. I have the same chain law so im cleanin kennels twice a day!

as stupid as this sounds, it wouldn't piss me off half as much if the dog kenneled next to him wasn't immaculately behaved in every way lol

It's probably just the dogs nature but if there's some way to raise the dog to want be cleaner etc i don't want to miss it!

If you have dogs kenneled youre going to have to clean there shit. No different than cleaning a chainspot.

This a male?? And is there another male next to him?? Have one male that's very similar, first thing is tire his ass out every chance possible. Put a springpole in there so he has something to do when bored. And one more idea is a divider between the kennels so he doesn't see the other dog. And guess what he's still going to do it regardless because he's marking his territory. Remember it's an animal!! They are not refined like some humans, to them smells are a big part of their world. Like another response said get used to liking the kennel cleaning process.

Hell he might be one of those really smart hounds n he knows everytime he shits the kennel he gets attention, up until a yr 6 months ago I didn't reallize dogs could b this smart, just a theory

    blanch Big Dog

yeah it's a male,no way to really tire him out without either a lot of time and a bike or some rabbits/rats,he's a lurcher not a bulldog and won't entertain a pole, neither dog either side of him pisses up the wall in their kennels if they can't hold it.

I've given up on this dog ever getting better,i posted this thread just in case anyone had any suggestions on how to stop them getting to this point or how best to nip it in the bud etc

    thanks for all the suggestions.

Maybe if you walked him until he empties out.

If your idea of a good dog is dictated by comparing one's "dirty" habits to another's tidy habits then you have some serious issues.

It is obvious that you do not like getting your hands in shit so it is probably better if you put the dirty dog out of its misery so you can continue with your spic and span life.

So in an ideal world, you wouldn't prefer a dog to have clean habits?

I never mentioned getting rid of any dog for being dirty and wouldn't keep a dog that i didn't think was good.

i started this thread to ask if anyone had any good tips on breaking/preventing these habits in a pup (just in case you didn't notice where I wrote that about 4 times).
