raising a litter

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Grizzly's Boss, May 24, 2010.

  1. I watch dog shows on tv and wonder how long do these breeders raise the litter before they find what they THINK would be the one. I know day one is the "floor" but what is the "ceilling" 6mo, 1yr etc...?

If you are a Breeder what do you do?

    What are your methods?

Each person is different with how they run their kennel or yard. Everyone has different things they breed for or qualities they like in their own dog so naturally they will breed for those...If it was me however if I was too breed I would keep the entire litter for either myself or put it in a very select few close friends hand's, and they would be sorted through when it was time (adulthood). Keep what we like, and what works for us then cull the rest.

yep, that sums it up for me. i'm no breeder but ive had litters before. picking THE dog at a young age is foolish, so you have to keep the litter to see what you have accomplished. i just want to add to fblb's post, like a fella on here and i were discussing this morning, the difference between close friends hands and TRUSTED close friends hands is something you dont wanna find out the hard way.
