Question on treatment for Demodex

As many of you know...I've got one who is having a terrible time with Demodex. He had been on Ivermectin for a long while, and the demodex would flare up, calm down, flare up, calm down...

So now he is being dipped with Mitaban. Today was his 5th bath and first skin scrape. The scrape showed a positive - and a very big positive! So the vet called to inform me that he's giving him a large dose of Ivomec and would like to keep him a bit longer than normal to watch him.

How common is that? To give a big does of Ivomec like that? Especially after the dog has been on Ivermectin for almost 4 months w/o any progress.

And here's a tough question. If no form of treatment works, will the dog need to be PTS? I'm not thinking about this right now, but what are the stats. on dogs never recovering from Demodex and how can they successfully live with it? He is 11 months old...

    Thank you.

i agree with tnob's recommendation. Go get some nu-stock, you've given him enough drugs.

    He's being fed Canidae.

The Ivermectin didn't work out for him unfortunately.

And we have Nu-Stock, yet it's generalized. I'd probably go through a container of it a day if I spread it all over. Has anyone done that?

Go for it, you've got to try something. I used benadryl gel to help with the itching.

Wow that is some different information right there! Were there any tried and true testimonial replies to it? Thank you for the post 33mta3, I'll have to look into all of that.

When my dog was dipped it made it worse. I cut my loses after 2 wekks of no improvement and started NuStock treatments. In a couple of days I saw improvement.

I was told that Nu-Stock doesn't cure it, but it promotes the hair growth - and along with other treatments, it can lead a person to believe that the Nu-Stock was the success.

Yet, I have heard people say they used it and it worked! We've been putting it on him in places where there's no hair (for regrowth) and it's still not working too well. But if at first you don't succeed, try and try again right?

I'll print 33MTA3's posts off and do some research on it to further my education on the ideas, and try some of it out.
