problem with spring flirt pole

Discussion in 'Training & Behavior' started by bajoquinto1, May 15, 2014.

  1. Ive got a pup thats about to turn 5 months who loves to bite and chew on everything that is not a toy. The problem im having is I built a spring pole with a hide and a flirt pole with a fire hose tug but he has a hard time opening his mouth and staying in grip and after a while he leaves it and goes back to biting things on the floor like my garden hose air conditioning cables etc. Has anyone else had an similar issue

i'm struggling to get mine interested in biting the hide. She'd rather sit and lick the underside. I have to use small prey looking toys with rope hidden inside. To stop from chewing on the hose and air conditioning cables, try a little hot sauce, a little deterrent can go a long way if the dog is smart.

Your pup is only 5 months old growing into his adult teeth It's going to chew things.
As for the spring pole it would be a good idea to not let your pup get on it until at least 15 months old when their teeth are set in.

I agree bushwick, good points. I start em a little earlier but not very hard. I'd just let the pup be what he is, a pup. Like bushwick said, his teeth need to set in before he gets to pulling on them. I'd start with the flirt when you do decide to and then the spring. Good luck.
