I was always told to buy and breed of the top shelve, but these day a lot of dog men have outrageous prices. What do u guys think of the way this thing has turned from a sport to a business.

Well, in todays world where there are SOOO MANY dogs that ARE currs or are from CURRS, how much IS a grown PROVEN Honest Bulldog worth???

Dont get me wrong a proven dog is worth its weight in gold but I am not going to pay over a grand for a pup that may or may not turn out

the truth is there is really one way around those outrageous prices, if you want a well bred dog and not off some peddler. you have to get to know some people, show them that you are responsible and are ready for the responsibility. these dogs in my mind make great companions if that is what you are looking for, but as i am sure anyone will tell you they are full of energy some more than others, and if you are gonna keep the dog in the be prepared to walk him or exercise someway everyday. most oldtimers are willing to teach you if they no you have the breeds best interest at heart and will probably sell you a pup wen they know that you are willing to give a lot of time to the dog

Alot of people complain about the high prices of some gamebred APBTs. Keep in mind you can get some of the best lines in the world for a quarter of the price of a Blue Hippo. I have never paid alot for a dog, but I don't care if someone else drops a few thousand dollars on a pup. It doesnt hurt me any. Some people just want to put the odds in their favor. So if you get a grand champion bred to a champion (or ROM to a POR) the pups aren't usually cheap. The odds are alot better than getting a pups with the champions, and ROMs a few generations back. More often than not, you DO get what you paid for. I think a lot of people CAN'T buy them because they don't have the money, so then they start bitchen about the breeder likes it's there fault. Alot of people really have no idea what it takes to campain a dog, the work, the effort, and mostly the risk. When someone sells a dog, they should sell it for the MOST the market will allow.

Very good point, I've had bulldogs for over 20 years and never been without a dog, and never bred a litter, but for all the work I put into my dogs if I did they wouldn't be cheap, that's for damn sure!

I have breed plenty of proven dogs but never have I made a breeding for a profit. Its either been a breeding that I wanted to try or something I thought would make my line stronger. And after about 2 or 3 months the pups that I didnt want to keep I never put a price tag of over $600 on a pup, because I know there are some wealthy dog man but most are like me, a working stiff with a love for bulldogs. Dont get me wrong I have no problem with a guy turning a buck but if that is your only reason for a breeding you should go and breed those bull sh*t blue dogs and leave this to true dog men.

It only cost a little more to go first class is what wiz hubbard always said. I would save a little more and buy a grown started dog anyway. Given the climate nowadays don't expect the breeders to sell them any cheaper. It is a risk just to own more than a couple dogs for the risk of being accused of wrongdoing. If I was in their place I would want fair compensation also.

for a pup from proven top shelve breedings I will pay up maybe 1000 to 1500 if it is from r.o.m. dogs. Adult that is proven depending on how confident I am in the dogs ability to produce I will pay the high amounts. But I have ran accross people that want 2000 for a pup because May Day is in there forth generation that makes no sense to me. The top breeders that have made their mark on this sport have earned the right the charge high amounts, but these are guys that wouldnt even think about breeding unproven dogs. Im not talking about them .

It just seems to me there is way too much going on with the dogs right now to be trippin on something that's so minor and aint gonna change. Who are they hurting anyway? Anybody that know's the game aint gonna run into those potential half stepping bulldogs anyway, not on the hunt so f#ck 'em, let 'em keep those watered down over bred mongrels. All the more reason to go home look out the window at your dogs with a smile on your face.

What sport isn't business? All sports is about money and business. I love how everyone when it comes to dogs is ok if someone losses money but hate on someone trying to make a buck.

1000 is absolutely rediculous, and if folks are charging that, theyre either sellin to idiots, or not sellin at all. there are honest people(who arent "breeders" btw) out there that dont charge but maybe half that for a damn nice pup.

I agree! It takes alot of work taking a pup from the ground up to Champion, no matter what you compete in. Thats alot of time and money and if the seller thinks that dog is worth the listed price, then in his mind, its payment for the work he has done for the potential buyer. There are many kennels out there that have got there name and reputation of another dogmans work. You pay $5,000 for a champion and his stud fee is $1000, you'll make your money back in 5 breedings, that aint bad at all. Your risk level drops drastically if its a [] champion, you breeding a proven dog and you didnt have any risk prior to breeding him. In all honesty, thats the fastest way to start a yard, buy a proven female and pay a stud fee to the best producer you can, and you got yourself a litter off of proven stock. Without any real work involved, cant do it any faster, any other way. JMO

For me as a newcomer to game dogs this would be the way I would want to go about my business, that way I would have the knowledge and know how, to do it right if and when I got myself a quality bulldog. That being said there are a lot of people who will pay big $ for a dog with some lines they heard about on places like these with no real idea of what there getting. So can you blame someone for graciously taking there money catering to there want to own a Game Dog? probably not, except that those who pay that kind of scratch for a dog without knowing F all are typically the ones who don't know what there doing and thus are a liability to these great dogs and the people that continue to preserve these dogs at all costs. People who know about these animals, people on this board don't need to go to some guy off they net and pay absurd $ for a pedigree because they know and understand what the reality of getting a good dog is and the cost that entails that. I think some people should be glad there are big bully pigs out there going for huge $ because there are enough people out there willing to spend big to own a PITBULL and as we all know these bullies are a far cry from the breed you all take so much pride in, so let them get the Blue whale dog and keep the honest dog for honest dogmen who will do them right. JMO:confused:

i agree !! all in the eye of the beholder, im on online peds & you can get a good pup of of about all the famous bloodlines very good bred proven parents for around 600 bucks , but some are more around 1000 , but that bs about if the parents or grand parents arent proven the dogs are currs or shit /what ever is bullshit , you ever think mabye those owners just wanted the bloodline & wern't into matching the dogs ,, i know lots of peeps who bought pups from good tight bloodlines 2-3 generations back nothing was done & their pup/dog is a beast !!!!!!! & is now proven ..ect..ect...to each their own everyone has their own views or guidlines on how they buy or breed their dogs !

  20. In my experience, unproven equates to a dog that has never been looked over and/or touched. So yes, paying a $600-$1500 is ridicules.
