Four police officers, one armed with a shotgun, helped remove two pit bulls from a Denver home Tuesday afternoon.

One dog was carried away, while the other was taken in his portable kennel through the back door of a duplex in the 2800 block of Williams Street around 3:15 p.m.

The owner of the dog was handcuffed and questioned by police, but he was released soon after the dogs had been removed from the house.

It was unclear if he will be cited.

Denver re-enacted its ban on pit bulls in May after winning a court battle that overturned an attempt by the legislature to outlaw breed- specific legislation. Residents who break the ban face a misdemeanor penalty of up to $1,000 in fines and one year in jail.

Tuesday's incident began about 2:10 p.m. when a caller phoned Denver Animal Control and asked that two pit bulls be picked up at the address, according to John White, a Denver police spokesman.

White said Denver police were called to help animal control officers remove the dogs. Officer Mark Hart, one of the officers at the scene, said the pit bull owner was cooperative with officials and even warned them that the dog removed in the kennel was dangerous.

This is their BSL Law? No grandfather law? You own a pit and it just gets carried away? The owner gets cuffed? Is there more to the story that I am not seeing? What is going on?

I don't understand the handcuffs and a shotgun. Did they have a search warrant? Was this guy a felon? If the law came to my house to get my dogs for no reason they better come with more then a piece of paper!

They were called and told to pick them up. Naturally they had to be armed because they were pitbulls!!!

it is a shame.the owner of the dogs does not have any pride.he is made fly by four fucked up the ass cops without moving!!! Denver is a town of assassin!!! the French law resembles that of Denver a little.
me I little to tell you a thing, it is that whoever returns at home to steal my dogs risks its life which I would be in France,à Denver or has tombouctou!!

  12. it sounds to me that chinasmom is not a pitbull lover like we are. every dogman knows that if the bulldog is well bred socalized and trained they are not people mean dogs unless they have to be.Denver is just taking things out of control banning all dogs is just stupid punish the deed not the breed.to me it is like saying that we should get rid of all balcks because a high percentiage of them commit crimes to society.i think we need to take a major stand y'all

Pit bulls are banned here as well, but haven't heard anything about officers going in with shot guns, but also all dogs lisenced in Ontario is already grandfatherd....this is insain and it's stupid of the owner owning a dog that he knows is dangerous, and obviously to humans concidering he told the officers he's dangerous...that was just something to add to everything else that goes on....I think if someone tried to take my dogs away from me like that I would want them to shoot me first I couldn't go through with loosing my dogs, They are my life, I have no other life then the one that revolves around them.
