Ok so I got a 9 week old American pitbull terrier. She is very friendly and likes to sit in your lap and sleep. She loves people and doesn't seem to really bother any of the other puppies at puppy playtime. I also have a 9 year old chinese crested and he hates her he just barks and snaps at her. Anyways.. My bfs friend brought his new 11 week old pitbull mix puppy over for some playtime and he was very nice and he was gentle with my dog (willow). They seemed to get along great but then all of a sudden, willow goes to his dog and starts to be really aggressive she's holding on to him and growling and just being plain mean we had to break it up. I guess my question is.. Could my older dog have taught willow to be aggressive by observation? Or could this have been like over excited aggression? I just really don't want her to be the aggressive one because I want to keep taking her to socialization classes and puppy training classes.

You have a bulldog. Stop taking it to puppy playtime. Its a dog not a child.

Obviously its a dog idiot. They have classes for socialization. You know that thing where you can take a puppy to socialize and play? You have no idea what type of dog; I don't have a bulldog.

If this is your first time owning one i would recommend doing some research on the breed. And before you jump to conclusions the fact that you didn't know APBT's are commonly referred to as Bulldogs speaks volumes to many of the members here.

How is that good advice? How about I never socialize my dog and had her attack everything because she's never been around other dogs?

Actually this is my 3rd time owning one and I've never heard it being called a bulldog. It's been a while since I had a puppy. If you guys knew anything about dogs in general you'd know you have to socialize when they're young.

Here some advice. Go get yourself some richard Stratton books on the apbt. He writes about the breed in a way that will help a first timer like yourself understand the breed you just got yourself into.

Honestly though that is the problem with the breed....Most people REALLY DON'T KNOW ABOUT THESE DOGS and they get most of their info about the breed from tv and news articles. All they see is ''pitbull trained to kill'' or ''pitbull trained to fight'' or ''man found guilty in dogfighting ring and 20 pitbulls seized''....A lot of ppl really don't understand the history of the breed and that some dogs ARE NOT MEANT TO BE SOCIALIZED!!!! Some come out of their mother's womb with the mentality to hunt...No human being put that in the dog, or trained it to be that way, it was just yrs of history of that dog filiing its ancestors shoes....I am in no way condoning or advocating anything illegal, but there were times when laws WERE different and some things WERE seen/viewed differently and anyone who has a pitbull today probably has the blood of those majestic warriors running through their veins in some capacity. You can put all the pink sweaters on that pup but at the end of the day SHE IS SHOWING YOU HER TEMPERMENT AND WHAT IS ON HER MIND! Please try your best to work with her because I would hate to see another poor innocent dog in the pound because IT WAS ONLY DOING WHAT CAME NATURAL TO IT, and it's owner wanted it to be something different.......

Yup. You know what's funny is some folks FORGET why this breed was created. No amount of puppy classes can get the "pit" out an apbt.

  14. There's nothing wrong with socializing a puppy but you have to know the expectations of the breed. Dog aggression is a normal and expected genetic trait. Socializing is good and fine but your dog is showing clear signs (if you can even call it that at this point) of aggression toward other dogs. Your dog is beyond socializing now. At this point, you need to be less concerned with socializing her with other dogs and more concerned with making sure she doesn't get a hold of another dog.

Time to implement crate and rotate and 100% separation from other dogs. It's not hard; it just takes a little extra vigilance.

Also, FYI, socialization is so much more than introducing your pup to other dogs. It's also making sure the pup meets different people, different races, different ages, etc. Also introducing the pup to things that are often scary like bicycles, umbrellas, hats, etc. It's making your dog a well-rounded stable dog by showing her that the world is interesting, not scary.

What made you assume she had a bulldog? With a post like hers she probably has a petbull LMAO

Yes I know that. I have been socializing her with other dogs and lots of people. I have been training her and working with her. I just dont understand what is so wrong with socializing her with other puppies. I know that trait is in her and if you raise her with all the things people tell you to do she will be ok.

You'll find out whats wrong with it when that pup grows up and decides to crank up during a play session with someone elses dog and no amout of training is going to help you stop the carnage once it happens. Your setting that dog up to fail and all of us who try dilligently to keep our dogs out of trouble are the ones who end up looking like assholes to the public and have the media crying for breed bans because of dickwads that want to get a fighting breed of dog and decide they are going to socialize the dog with other dogs, which goes against everything these dogs have been bred for centuries for. No amount of training is going to overide hundreds of years of selective breeding to do the opposite of what you are tring to do. People are giving you sound advice, you just wont take it because of this illusion in your head that you can train out genetics. Shame, this breeds biggest downfall is the rejects who own them.... Anyone who reads what you have typed so far and knows anything about this breed can easily see, you dont know shit about the breed and in the end, the dog will pay the price for your ignorance and total denial of what the dog really is. In the end its the dog that is going to get the short end of the stick. Hopefully you got swindled and the pup is not a real APBT.
