Pit Bulls Banned in Ardmore TN, NEED HELP !!!!!!

I just found out about this this morning and am still working on getting contact info of Mayor and Councilmen.

Thier attorney and technical advisor even warned against a ban on specific breeds but they passed it anyway. Talked with the Mayor of Ardmore TN, today. He is also Principle of Giles Co. High School.
His name is Bob Hasting. I know Bob pretty well, and thought I could get this turned around, but he is going along with some councilmen who introduced it.

NO attacks by APBT has occured, in Ardmore, but the passed this Ordinace anyway, stating that they want to be "Pro-Active", instead of "Re-Active"

Bob told me that Pit Bulls were trained to fight and used as protection dogs for drug dealers, and they wanted to pass the ordinace before a child or person was mauled or killed.

I tried to talk some sense into him and give him the real story, but he was unconcerned.
I told to prepare for a onslaught of phone calls and faxes from APBT, and ABD owners, and he just laughed.

He said, Shane, they will call and and fax for a week or so, and then forget about the issue.

ummmmmm, I'm wondering, too? No public meeting? No announcement, etc? Too bad, if not. Doesn't seem right...The ADBA association, I've no doubt, would have attended and spoke on behalf of its opposition, as would the ADOA, not to mention fellow pit bull owners.....

any more info about it? Lemme see what's on some boards....

Ok I tried to find the address of the mayor and city council members. Here is a cool site, that will tell you but you have to have the 9 digit zip code and I only have the first five digits and PO Boxes don't work as addresses on this site.
here is the link to project votesmart. You have to have the 9 digit zip code of Ardmore or the city hall and then this site will tell you the mailing adresss, name and email(if any) of local elected officials. Hope this helps...

    http://www.vote-smart.org/index.htm

If you know the last name of your mayor or the nine digit zip, this site will help you.
If you can post that info (addresses and emails) I'd be happy to write to them and tell them they should reconsider their bsl ordinance.

I did find a link for the Giles County Commisioners of district 1 which includes Ardmore, but am other wise totally at sea as I live in California and have NO idea of the political set-up of Ardmore. although I did find websites for part-time jobs in Ardmore and also a link to hotels, and a link to cocaine addiction treatment centers. LOL, what are you all doing down in Ardmore? sorry just thought I'd
    throw in a little humor.
I can't find any links to a city of Ardmore website dag nab it, just the county and the election commission.
Here is the site of the county
    http://www.gilescounty-tn.us/com.html.
Wish I were more computer literate and could help more.

He thinks it is funny eh? Where the heck is Ardmore at in Tennessee? It is a conflict of interest to be principal and mayor. He has the influence to make his own pay raises. Sounds like a criminal. Must be a yellow dog.

Ardmore is a small town in Giles CO TN.

The Contact info I posted is the only way to contact them.

Bob Hastings is Principle and Mayor, however the School is a county school, outside the city limits of Ardmore.

Please ring thier phones off the hook, and send faxes with "Pro-Pit Bull" info.

The next meet isn't until next month, and this is when we will ask that they, reconsider the ordinace.

1 call and 1 fax a day from everyone will make an impact.

1 or two calls will do nothing.

Let your voices and opinions be heard.

PLEASE... let’s show Bob that responsible dog owners don’t take this lightly and we won’t “just forget about the issue.” I have included some contact information below. I have no individual council member information, so just as before, please fax letters to the city clerk with the request that copies be distributed to each city council member.

I'm on it. I guess we won't be able to take our pets out there for Dog Days any more. This is BS! I'm working on my letter. I will get family and friends to send letters and make phone calls as well. Please be sure to keep me updated on the exact meeting date. I'll be there. :)

My feeling is that it would be best if you can get letters and faxes and phone calls going from registered voters in Giles county. I will send letters, cannot afford phone call or faxes. Any of you members who are local or near local, I hope you will step up and put pressure on this guy (mayor of Ardmore). Hopefully they will repeal their bsl before the next election. I hope you are considering voting for his opponent unless he changes his stance on bsl. good luck. I promise a letter...

here's what you can do,,,, rally everyone you can to go to the next council meeting,,,to stand for your cause,,, there are many alternative to this without being breed specific,,,by regulating how many dogs someone in city limits has per yard to a regular dog oridinace that covers vicious dogs,,,,go to city hall and as to see the vicious dog ordinace they have before they put this in effect and i garentee you it will cover everything this vicious dog ordinace does,,,,and at the next council meeting with all your support can argue why is it needed when you already have one thats says the same thing and if you gather and poke around on the net enough you'll find one thats not breed specific and tell them if we can't come to a reasonable solution then your going to file suit with the city,,,most small town municipalities won't risk a lawsuit,,,other than finding a reasonable solution,,,,you all have to stand and fight as one if you don't they will take your right and flush them,,,after a $1000.00 and pure hell,,, i got what i wanted,,,my pitbulls,,, all of them,,

Ok, I actually typed out a letter and it is all ready to mail on Monday to the mayor and city council. I will write more also. Please keep us posted on how the campaign is going.
Try to get emails if possible so we can send them links to pit bull sites like My Dog Votes.
I shall keep the letters coming as long as you think it will help. Try to put in an appearance at the next city council meeting with some dog owners and representatives of dog groups who are opposed to bsl. Sending them articles like the one Marty posted is a good idea too! I will include a copy in my next letter
Good luck! I am sure you can beat this if you just organize...
