I remember sitting at the table on my tea break half way through a back shift at a Power Plant on the North sea coast, middle of winter and freezing.. I'd been thinking about buying a dog, couldn't make my mind up between a Rottweiler and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.. I'd recently bought the brown book by John F Gordon and had it in my locker, saw pictures of a few Staffords including one called Jolihem Dreadnought, been hooked ever since really.. Thanks Mr Gordon!

From memory here, and all these dogs were primarily, show dogs, the gamest lines in staffords back in the day were, rapperee, betchgreen, sparpit, gwynford and linksbury.

  16. Did any of the lines you say ever go into APBTs?
If so how did they get on?

  17. I'm presuming the Gwynford line was from Wales?.
    If so we're abouts?

I used the term gameness loosely ,all i am saying is the older sbt men that i knew who were,a little bit sporting shall we say ,seemed to have dogs with the mentioned blood behind them, and i am talking before the american dogs came over, they could never have competed say in the square with those dogs, obviously there would be the odd exception, but there would be people on here better qaulified than myself to comment on that. These dogs were bred for showing but occasionally were owned by someone who liked a more sporting animal,i knew one old boy who showed his dogs one day and be out ratting with them the next. The gwynford dogs were actually from the midlands and the man who,s prefix it is,had absolutely no interest in sporting dogs at all ,he was purely a show man and was actually president of the sbt club,a perfect gentleman ,much the same as the others but for some reason his dogs were a bit lively shall we say,the linksbury kennel was actually two little old spinster ladies that lived in deepest west wales, they are long gone now,but i have seen pictures of some of their dogs and you wouldnt be able to distinguish them from apbts.

  19. Great in sight.thanks Stedz
