Petition Against Pit Bull Ban in Georgia (House Bill 78)

Ga, -- Georgia State Representatives Williams of the 89th, Brooks of the 63rd, Watson of the 91st, Mosby of the 90th, Mitchell of the 88th and others have proposed a bill (House Bill 78) that would ban the import, sale, transport and ownership of American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier or any dog displaying these breed's physical traits.

If this bill is passed the breeding of pit bulls would be prohibited and owners of existing Pit Bulls would be required to neuter, leash and MUZZLE their dogs any time they are outside their home.

We as citizens of The United States of America believe that we have the right to own any breed of dog we choose. We believe that irresponsible dogowners should be held accountable rather than blaming a breed of dog.

Well since BSL has been found to be unconstitutional i would hope it will die, but we are on it!!!!!!!!!!!

 

The problem is, that ruling was in a district court. There are a number of district courts and they can issue conflicting rulings until a case is appealed all the way to the US supreme court.


So just because the district court for the northeast ruled BSL unconstitutional in Ohio, the district court for the Southeast might rule otherwise. It would be nice if we had any lawyers on the board to hear their insights on this. Anyway, signed.

I signed # 2290. I also signed this a year or so ago. And talked to the Williams and the Brooks guy via email. Seems I didn't change their opinions any huh? Most people that want to institute bans are close minded anyway. The only way they see is their way. And none of them has probably ever met a pit bull in person.

Its pretty disgusting that people can judge a whole entire breed to be bad, and make an attemp to exstinguish the breed .When infact its the owner who should be held responsible.Also signed*

I signed.. I fear this is going to get even worse once the dems take over God help us if Hillary rottenass clinton or Osama-Obama gets the white house. Mexico is looking better everyday.

 

*this is about the old bill - the one that died back in 2005! it's still online, which has caused a LOT of confusion, but it is definitely dead (at least for now). The current HB 78 is about conservation use property or some such thing.

There is, however, another proposed new law in Georgia, HB 301, that hasn't been discussed yet on this board:

This bill is very similar to SB 16 which is in the Georgia senate and has already been discussed on a couple of other threads. There have been some changes to this bill which make it slightly more acceptable, I guess. But this new one (HB 301, above) definitely requires some letters and emails.

 

I don't like that bill but it's much better than HB78.
