Pet Insurance

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by lumpyprince, Jun 11, 2016.

  1. Hi everyone
Can't seem to find a recent thread here about insurance, but I'm curious if anyone here has insurance for their pits? I'm in the process of looking for a male pup for my girlfriend since our 8 year anniversary is coming up. I know that a lot of home insurances don't like to insure if you have pits, but if anyone has pet insurance who are you currently with?

Is the insurance to cover if it gets ran over or bites someone ? Seems like a waste of money to me if it gets hit you simply replace said dog

I can't see what's posted originally since I'm on a cell phone but pet insurance is very well worth the cost if you have 1 or 2 pets. It usually covers wellness checkups, vaccinations etc. Also helps pay for major things like surgeries etc. I'm offered it through my job but since I have quite a few more than just 2, the expense isn't worth paying the premium in my case.

  4. Bella, our female has always been a clutz, the first few months we had her she was doing fine until I noticed something wrong with her leg. We took her to the vet and he said that she had a luxating patella and diagnosed her with grade 2 and 3. He recommended surgery which would cost us up to almost $3000. Wow.. now I don't know how she got this, if she did something in the yard herself or if she had this issue before but never showed it until now. I never really thought about insuring her before only because I've never really thought about it, but because she came to us as a rescue I just found out that insurance companies will not cover for pre existing conditions, so I'm kind of in a pickle if they will still cover her or not. She also gets a lot of skin problems during hotter months even though she's inside with us most of the time. We do spent quite a bit with her check ups and medications (currently trying to see if home remedies could be any better cause check ups do add up) Puppies on the other hand are the best to insure it seems because you're insuring them before anything happens. What I'm looking more into isn't just a wellness plan but something that can cover accidents AND genetic issues as well like hip dysplasia once they get older. At the moment, I would be able to pay for her surgery, but I really was not prepared to pay that bill.. that's why I was thinking insurance would be a good idea for us considering we don't always have money to put aside for our dogs if something big like this happens.

  5. Hi everyone, UPDATE
I talked to several of my friends who have pet insurance and among the top ones I kept hearing were Pet Plan, Trumpanion, and Healthy Paws. It seems that they all offer a wide range coverage that pretty much protects against all health problems, accidents and some even offer wellness add-ons too. I'm particularly interested in Healthy Paws though since we'll be having another puppy soon and they off discounts for signing up multiple pets at once. I searched online and read they give out several additional discounts for military, AAA, microchipping, and the rest i can't remember off the top of my head. There seems to be coupon sites that offer promo codes too but I’m not sure if you can combine a coupon code with other discounts, nor can I find a good source for this. Does anyone know more about this?

The plan I was looking at from Healthy Paws with this coverage was about $60 so the reimbursement from her last accident alone (if I was insured by then) would have paid 15 months of the $60/month premiums. I've sifted through some bookmarks to get about a handful that proved to be accurate and easy to understand. The next time I go with Bella for her check up I'll talk more about it with my vet I guess. It seems that there's 2 extremes when it comes to insurance here. Either it's a waste or it's very good to have, but for me I really would feel much better knowing I have my dogs insured. If anyone has any other experiences please let me know! I still have time to decide and would like to get the best plan I can get for my dogs.

  6. insurance is helpful, you never know when things "happen".

YOu should pick up something that has wide coverage.

  7. If you're talking about pet insurance, then I believe that every pet owner is obliged to do such a thing. After all, at any moment, something can happen to your pets, for example, an illness or some other accident, anything happens!

  8. If you're talking about pet insurance, then I believe that every pet owner is obliged to do such a thing. After all, at any moment, something can happen to your pets, for example, an illness or some other accident, anything happens! I recently had my dog sick, and I had to pay several thousand dollars for her treatment. Still, I had read an article about pet insurance on this site https://gathercover.co.uk/pet-insurance/multi-pet/. I would not have paid much money, but my insurance company would have paid for everything. My opinion is that every person who has a pet should take out pet insurance. It is beneficial not only for the animal but also for the owner.

  9. I have Lemonade pet insurance. I pay 43 a month it has 100 dollar annual deductible and pays 90 back in as little as 45 minutes. i take pics of papers requested as i fill out the claim in the app.
hint, use the word "mix" such as terrier mix. shepherd mix. it actually reduces premiums. cant find a mountain high enough to tell you all about this amazing insurance. only thing they request is that you have a current health exam from the vet when you start the policy and shots current.
All claims are done through the app. been a customer for 1.5 yrs and haven't had a claim denied. you can add additional coverages such as office visits, shots, rehab extras.
it has never taken more than 2 days for a claim to be approved and money in my account in 5 days.
