Interesting question come up though Keystone. Now, say I had 10 dogs on my yard, "family" dogs, bred tight, culled to where I'm only keeping the best 1-2 per liter and I'm doing well locally and like minded people really like my dogs. Now this unknown dog comes along and I acquire it. I soon find out that this one is heads and tails better pound for pound and that's just OBVIOUS. I've only got space for 10 dogs I breed with... I'd have to cut out a few of my family dogs AND basically put a hold on new breedings and prospects to give this unknown a real chance to produce because I'm going to have to guess and research and try some things and make room for the offspring. The only thing you really know for sure is you came across a better bulldog than anything you've gotten so far.

 

i don't get rit of family bred bitches ..if i had those ....nevr .
ask somebody around ..if sh/he is willing to do a litter .
work together ..
nevr been in that sutuation ....

 

I had something similar happen where I did find a better dog than the ones I was keeping at the time. It wasn't unknown but very much in doubt to its paperwork and my "family" at the time were just scatterbred, best to best (or so I thought)... Anyway. Space, time, finances and all that have always and probably always will be a concern for me and I've had to make really tough choices with dogs. Not all of them the right ones either but I hope to keep learning. I was just posing a question really. If you had to go family or better what would it be?

I'm pointing out, in a round about way, one situation that leads to someone choosing to hang a pedigree on a dog. It's not so much somebody just starting out with a devious plan to screw everybody over but circumstances that arise where a person either feels the need to save face or reputation.

I've seen plenty of more than worthy dogs that were unknown or highly questionable. And if your human and realistic the temptation is there.

Danny-b ,,ya could just go for it and keep the 1/r/2 your self...could be the start off something..if it do'snt work out....well just move on..it might set you back a year or so,,,.jus be honest about the ped's ,,if they work out,it won't matter what other's think...as they carry on gen/after/generation.(as long as they keep working out)..the ped's will fill out...performance is what really matters....nothing else.....

I would try with all my might to not let any off my yard or out of my sight. And it's going to take me at least 2 years before I'd cull any of the healthy offspring, taking up valuable time, space, and cash.

Well. My point is there's an idealistic world that most of us aspire to and the neck deep in bullshit real world that most of us have to live in. I actually like seeing a pedigree with "unknown" in it for at least a few dogs in their kennel.

 

Like ya say d-b...we don't live in an ideal world.....and ya will find unknown's in most ped's when ya go back far enough.....
