I really love(truly love) Akitas because of their bone structure and coats and they're sporting dogs but TX is too hot for medium to long coat dogs. I'm not that selfish to get one.

  3. I am also very fond of the chow chow, but like scratchy mentioned about Akitas... a chows coat would cause a lot of problems in the south. I remember having to groom my chow twice a week, and brushing enough fur to fill a plastic grocery bag everytime. That was in Colorado...that fur could get ugly here in Tennessee. Recently, their "bad rep" has subsided, but growing up everyone in my area had a story about an evil chow (or rottie) from their neighborhood...because the bad dog stereotyping is cyclical I hope that the APBT's bad rep also passes in the near future. Chows, like pitbulls are not for everyone, and their owners really have to understand all aspects of that breed. Chows tend to be aloof, and are difficult to obedience train. Its almost like they think they are better than playing "doggie games." They have an intimidating demeanor for strangers, but are loyal companions to the family. In general chows are fierce guardians of their territory (there were a lot of junk yard dogs where im from that were chows, and chow/shepherd mixes), and along with that they need an owner that is firm/consistent. My first dog was a chow, and I don't think a grasshopper could have landed in the yard without her challenging it. We also later adopted a chow/shepherd mix that was so portective that she wouldn't let my parents spank us! She'd always put herself between me and the belt. Imagine my dad having to put the dogs outside so that my mom could continue spanking us! That's loyalty and guardinship if you ask me! My first dog (the full chow) was shot in the flank(with a 9mm) by some punks when she was about 9 years old, and we didn't even know about it for about almost a week. She didn't even wimper, but the next time she was groomed we noticed a f#ck%ng bullet hole! She survived that one, and was finally put down at 13 when she suffered from severe hip dysplasia. The chow/shepherd mix died several years ago at 15, and was the adopted mommy of my parents first APBT "Neo."

Those were some good dogs...loyal guardian that would take a bullet to the side, or a spankin' for any of the children!

Your Chow was shot by a punk and you only noticed it one week after. How is that possible? I mean It must have been bleeding like hell. You are right when you say they can be protective. I knew a girl who owned a male and she just didn't raise it correctly so he thought he was top dog. When she went out with a friend of mine the dog attacked him and bit him in the throte. i know it's bad press but that's what happened. The problem is that the female owner was too careless and treated the dog like a baby.

I had a dogo argentino and now I have a lovely miniature bull terrier. She is nothing less than perfect.

  8. Bleeding is controlled by direct pressure, and apparently thats what her thick undercoat was able to provide. It may have also been a ricochet or shrapnel that penetrated. Eitherway she never whined...she limped slightly, but she had hip dysplasia...we though it was that.

I realize that it sounded like I didn't believe you, but it was just incredible. togh dog though. Some seem just pain-less.

I love Chows as well. I am thinking of getting a black smooth coat Chow. Before I got pit bulls I had a blue rough coated Chow & his coat took at *least* two hours of grooming every other day just to maintain it. He was a beautiful dog but I don't think I want the obligation of that type of grooming regimen again. Plus the smoothies didn't suffer the overbreeding the roughs did, so the smoothies' temprament is a bit more solid.

I grew up with Golden Retreivers. Very sweet and loyal dogs but not the smartest critters in the K9 world. I never knew the love and loyalty a dog could give until I owned an APBT. I've had my house dog Heidi for 7 years. I dont know how shes bred and I dont care. Ive never had a connection with any being like I have with her. Shes smarter than alot of ppl I know and I'll never own another breed of dog, ever.

  15. It is always so hard to pick a breed of dog....I love ALMOST all breeds. Dobys and Rotts are high on the list, as are Chias and ANY terrier especially Boston and Patterdale and JR....., but....

I also like poodles and cockers and beagles and G Sheps and Labs and I could go on forever.....

The people list A LOT shorter! LOL

  17. I grew up with two bernese mountain dogs, which i still have bonny and monty. They are loving fluffies but completely sick bred rescued dogs, stubborn ones.

i love all dogs, but my favourites are apbt, their the best i've ever met, and I love caucasian ovcharka especially the original types of the caucasus that are untouched by these FCI wankers... And kangal, great and loyal dogs. And the black old german herding dogs... not to be confused with the gsds.

I would have to go with a St. Bernard. Had a few of them. Awesome dogs. Great protectors but very stable.

Also, my noni had a little Boston that was the coolest most crazy dog ever. The thing was a little punk. Loved that thing.

  19. we have had a few different breeds of dogs. we have had dalmations, newfoundlands and now we have apbts and a german shorthaired pointer.
