Reduces chance for disease, possibly reduces unwanted aggression, less chance the dog is going to mark things... So many reasons.

I really don't like doing it. It turns them into the dog version of a eunuch. I wouldn't do it to my kids, and I wouldn't do it to my dogs. Especially for what this dog is doing. This sounds like it could be cured with a little B.F. Skinner tactics.

This is one of the major dilemmas bulldog owners face daily. I hate taking her out in daylight,
mainly because other dog owners have their dogs loose and when they come up to her she goes ballistic.

Also worth pointing out, it depends how other dogs approach yours. I've noticed if other dogs
approach mines without a challenge, she's quite cool, but I've seen several dogs come up
to her with a challenging 'stare' that's when she goes nuts. I've seen similar behaviours
    On dog whisperer.

I am suggesting that you make a negative association with DA. It really isn't that hard to do. Now, that being said the dog will never be 100% reliable.

I know I am going to catch hell for saying that, but before the IBTC starts yapping ask yourself this: How many times have you heard of someone ruining a good dog? Maybe they introduced them to the pit too soon or whatever. It happens. Now, if your goal is to turn your dog into a cur it really isn't that hard.

You had better be able to read your dog though.

I see what you're saying........I personally don't believe it's something you can train out of them. And I don't know why anyone would want to try. If DA isn't a desired trait in a dog then somebody should get a breed that is bred to be a pack animal.

I find it very hard to beleive that you can train out DA.
WHy would you want to? This is what apbts do, if you don't like it, get another breed!

You can't train out DA, you can cover it up or have a dog act nicely in public but when the opportunity comes he will kill another dog.

Well, there are lots of reasons people get bulldogs. I personally use mine as catch dogs. APBT's make great catch dogs. However, it is pretty tough to run with bay dogs (especially if they aren't yours) if your catch dog would rather catch a dog then a hog.

I had a male catch dog that was great on hogs, but if you ran him with another bulldog he would t-bone the other dog and try to catch it on the ear everytime. It was funny to watch, but something you can't let fly.

I was able to break him of it with three weeks of hard pressure. I still have to remind him sometimes. Funny thing now is if he starts to act like a dick he stops himself and starts looking around for a hammer fist.

So you treat your dogs like kids, then?
It's just a dog. If I want to lower the chance that my dog will be extremely aggressive when I don't feel like having an aggressive dog then, yes, I'm going to get him snipped... I don't see how that's a bad thing

"He still needs to be reminded".........kind of proves you can't train it out of him.

Good luck on that, any hard driven apbt will not respond to controling DA

Yes they will. In the end they are still dogs and can be trained like such.
Again not speaking about training it out but simply training him to behave while working. They are two completely different things.
