I agree... At Paddies first show, she got to show twice.. first under G. Hammond, the next under sum guy from Canada... G. Hammonds prefers black dogs... Paddie is white with red cow spots... (The dog that took first was actually a hammonds dog... ) so Paddie didnt place... G. Hammonds didnt even take a second glance at Paddie.. her second show, she got 2cd, out of about 14 dogs... that jusdge REALLY looked at the dogs... individually.... so it all depends on the judge

Since you mentioned it first...lol Hammonds not only prefers black dogs, he rarely places one that isn't black..lol He was the judge at Nationals a couple years ago I was referring to..lol

Now we did take a 3rd place trophy that year with a little tan dog BUT he pissed the hubbie off so bad in the process it wasn't worth it. With a line of black dogs in the middle of the ring my little firery tan dog was raising the roof and caught his attention just before he was giving out the 3rd place.. Hammonds walked over to my husband, handed him the trophy and told him "She wasn't even in the running, but attitude makes up for alot" Weeelll you can do alot of things but don't basically tell my husband "your dog is ugly BUT since her attitude is so good here's a trophy" without ducking and running...lol We basically had to pack up and leave after that the hubbie was so mad. He wanted to give the trophy back..lol Hell I was just proud my baby got that huge trophy... Needless to say if Hammonds judges I make sure my hubbie is NOT showing one of the dogs that day...lmao

Haven't showed yet but I've been interested. One thing I do know is, pretty much everything in this world is who you know. I have been told the U.K.C. is pretty stubborn about letting A.D.B.A dogs into the registry. Even with a good ped. But a there are some people I know who know a U.K.C judge and all I have to do is be introduced and let him know it's a dog bred by them, and Bam I'm in. No scheduled inspection or hassle. Another lady I've met used to show. Now she just breeds and told me the same. She also said when I'm ready to show let her know and she can give a good word to her friend about us. Of coarse we would have to buy one of her pups. Could be a little hustle on her end or could be the truth. But this lady don't seem like the lying type and there are a lot of ch's n her ped.

Damn. The more I learn about showing, the less I'm interested. Never really figured it was my bag anyways. This isn't to bash it although. Just don't think I have the patience for it. :D

Its actually great fun, as long as you go into it with a good attitude. Its a great place to catch up with friends and a great place to show off your dogs..lol

The best thing about these shows is the positive image the public gets to see from a well put together confirmation and weight pull show, and not to mention that many of these clubs support anti-BSL groups and are active in fight BSL laws.

Some clubs even donate a portion of each entry fee to EBA..

Really its great to meet and catch up with fellow doggers. Its more of a mini vacation with friends if your like us and don't get to travel to far from the dogs..lol

Went to a weight pull once in Liberty, TX. Parking lot was full of puppies for sale and it made me sick to my stomach. I had never seen a weight pull and wanted to get into something with my dogs - after that day I was TURNED OFF. It wasn't just the puppies, but the people and the rudeness... I asked a few questions trying to learn what was going on and wanted to know why one of the UGLIEST dogs in the whole place won the "dog show" section - of course I DID NOT express my opinion about the ugly dog - but NO ONE was interested in talking if they didn't know you or you didn't want one of their poor pups

I agree they have a definate beneficial effect on behalf of the breed. Just not too sure I could deal with the judges and their bs. Dogs winning because of being a certain color, or having to know the right people. But I'm still learning and am open-minded......hey don't laugh.....:p As I learn more about them, I may change my perception.

Now don't just go to this one show.. Come to the Odessa show since there are several from this board going and have fun..

Not all shows are the same.. different areas have different people and some shows are more fun and relaxing then others!

Ok....you mention treadmill races. One of the coolest shows I've ever seen was put on by the TBA (Tenn. Bulldoggers Association.) They had treadmill races, hangtime events, small conformation show, and I think they're adding a tug-o-war this coming year.

Thanks to Knock and his wife for showing me a good time at the TBA show.
