I disagree bandogs are (or at least to my knowledge) bred and always have been for working they are mutts like bullies but have a purpose and in my eyes deserve some respect.

    Description
</td> <td bgcolor="#aeaeae">The word "Bandogge" is the generic name for any Bulldog Type Mastiff breed. The Bandogge has a very prominent musculature and an angulation that gives the dog a very athletic and agile look. Most are black brindle but others colors include black, blue, red, and tawny.</td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#c0c0c0">
    Temperament
</td> <td bgcolor="#aeaeae">The Bandogge is an extremely intelligent dog. Confident and very docile. Like all mastiffs, they should have an owner who is capable of staying dominant over the dog. They are not usually recommended as a good choice for first time dog owners, because they need someone who truly understands canine instinct and how to properly communicate what it is you want from him. Although not bred as fighting dogs, if they are with a passive owner, who does not know how to communicate aggression is not acceptable, they may become dog aggressive. Some people, mainly on the East Coast, still use this dog as a fighting dog. Luckily, there are more folks breeding these dogs for protection than for combat. As a protection dog, they are as a whole excellent. They have a great deal of drive and are very tractable. The only temperament draw-back to protection work is their unwillingness to perform the "bark" portion of the "bark and hold". As they are borne of fighting extraction, most dogs from this lineage do not bark as a warning, this is typically a difficult task. The American Bandogge is a breed that loves attention and thrives on leadership. If you are not this dogs 100% pack leader and/or if you do not provide enough mental and physical exercise they will become very upset when left alone and will be hard to control. While they are happy to receive any attention and gladly accept whatever you give them, they absolutely need an owner who displays authority over them. They prefer to be with their owners and live to please and protect them. Loving their families and protecting their domain. Bandogge can get along with other animals if they are raised with them including kittens, cats, and other dogs, but can be aggressive with animals they haven't been socialized with. They will protect themselves and their families to the end. Confident and very obedient, they are excellent with children. Bandogge seem to have a sense of when to be gentle. They are excellent family members as well as an intruder's worst nightmare. They are said to be "The Silent Peacekeepers". This breed may drool and slobber.

    Origin
</td> <td bgcolor="#aeaeae">American Bandogges are not purebred dogs, in the way we know the word "purebred". Their ancestry is of American Pit Bull Terrier and Neapolitan Mastiff. There are some kennels who do produce Bandogs successfully in many generations, without adding blood from other breeds, and have gained a homogeneous type. In the late 1960's a veterinarian by the name of Swinford began a breeding program which was ultimately to produce the greatest of all protection dogs. Though breeders of Bandogges today disagree on just what breeds went into Swinford's original breeding scheme, the general compromise is that it was 50 % American Pit Bull Terrier and 50 % very large molosser. The most common method employed to produce a Bandogge is to cross a good game male American Pit Bull Terrier with a large and strong Neapolitan Mastiff female. Another somewhat common method used in breeding the Bandogges is to cross an English Mastiff with an American Pit Bull Terrier. The American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes the American Bulldog crossed with a Mastiff as an American Bandogge. The Designer Dogs Kennel Club recognizes the American Bulldog crossed with the Mastiff as the American Masti-Bull. Also a similar cross is the Pit Bull Terrier and the Bullmastiff cross, however this cross is not called Bandogges but rather a Pit Bullmastiff. The name Bandog was used in the old England by the Saxons and comes from the word Banda,-a Saxon word for chain. It was common practice to tie the dog by day, and release him at night to enable him to carry out his guard duties. </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#c0c0c0">

"This is my boy Mr. Yanyeroo at 10 months old. He's very affectionate, with a good temperament. A nice looking dog who loves to play outdoors. One of our favorite shows is " Dog Whisperer" because it helps us understand each other a little better. Dad is an Olde English Bulldog (Hermes Bloodlines) and mom is a Dogue De Bourdeaux "French Mastiff" (Riverbend Bloodlines). I called the IOEBA, OREBA and ACHC club for advice regarding on which group should I place my dog and they informed me that he belongs to the American Bandog group which is a cross between a Mastiff with any Bully-type breed. I think he's a well structured dog and a good candidate for pet modeling and advertising. He'll be enrolled in training programs for obedience and guard dog in the upcoming weeks. I hope I can keep enjoying his companionship for many years to come, I love my boy !"

Bandogs are originally were bred to be working dogs. Sure I can see the visual similarities all bully breeds have similarities but as we all know looks done mean shit when it comes to the worth of a dog. Hell some of the greats looked like mutts. Bullies are bred for show and looks. A good bandog breeder breeds based on working abilities. Also most bandogs have sounds structure bullies well don't. So get your eyes checked and leave my 20/20 vision.

they are NOT the same, there is more to a dog than its appearance. they might look the same but they are NOT the same dog lol
u cant force a dog to have drive and stamina, you just cant
if you could train any dog to do anything we wouldn't have working breeds bred to do certain things...

  14. I've dealt with the bully dogs before and they are not good for much. I think that they should take a step back and look at what they are doing to thier dogs everytime they try to make them shorter and wider. They are making those dogs lives extremely hard. I can't say that I am a true game dog man because I do like some nice structure for wieght pulling and conformation, but I have seen with my own eyes a bully dog that could literally not get himself up on stage and place in that show. That made me sick to my stomach that something like that would be called a pitbull as they were billing it. You are right to say that they are mostly puppy peddlers and the largest majority of them are thugs and thieves. They are destroying the breed whether you call them bandogges or bullies or $2000.00 balls of crap they are still NOT a pitbull in any shape form or fashion!!! JMO

Bandoges come in many shapes and forms and come from many types of breeders as the case with all dogs. The bandogges main puprpose is 4 personal and property protection, not matchdogs, altho ive heard examples of gamebred bandoges doing the biz just fine.In my limited exp tho most r the worst examples of sloppy breeding with only a very small percentage of people testing, planning and campaigning their lines in whatever field they choose. On another subject i wanted 2 add that not all big bully pits r a disgrace IMO i mean for f#@& sake what would you have faceing a bear up in the hills a 15-20kg dog or a 45-50kg dog if both were gamebred and capable? lol

in the mid 90s i had a roomate who had himself a bandog. as a pup his name was Zeke, but as he grew he became known as FREAK, and that he was... 110 lbs and athletic as hell. we were a wild bunch living in the boonies then, slinging goodies, so a dog was on a chainspot on each corner of the house, and of course Freak got the backyard spot well within reach of the door. that dog was the most intimidating guard ive ever seen, hitting the end of a chain jumping 6' plus in the air and slobber flying everywhere. folks would pull up and just sit in their car. waiting for one of us to come out and get ahold of the dog. considering the way we lived, that dog was worth his weight in gold.

lol, ok storytime aside:D, there is no comparing a true working dog to one of those designer slobs
