You aren't getting what I am saying. Genetically defective dogs (HA) should be culled. Never allowed to breed imo. If you are a responsible owner, you will do the right thing. Never put your dog in a bad position. Contain your animals responsibily, whether it be chain setup or whatever you have to do.
It is your responsibility to do the right thing by your dog. They can only do what you allow them to do.

i dont agree with all things you said but overall i agree with the main point. The dog isnt for everyone, and eventhough its outlawed in so many places i see more of them than any other breed

 

its not that they are not good with children but they are not that great with kids
yeah there are some out there that may let a kid kick the shit out of him an replys with a lick

but all of them are not this way just because my dog lets my kids pull and tug on it
dosnt mean his sister will

so to say that these dogs are great with kids is a statement that does not stand for the breed as a whole

a kid got mauled by a dog in my area not long ago so whos fault is it the dog the kid
or the adult

9 times out of 10 I bet the kid and dog were left unsupervised because sumeone was under the impression that these dogs could do no harm
so look what happened

mabey if the truth was given they would have understood thats it ok to let the kids pet and play with the dog but not overbear the dog

Shit look at a litter of pups they may play all day but at some point they will have a falling out cause one got annoyed

samething with kids and dogs

your kid and dog can play allday everyday your dog needs a break before it snaps

hell I need a break from my daughter cause sometimes she just does the things that will get her a whooping or timeout sent outside

so what makes these dogs any different they get feedup to

so can you explain to me how they are so great with kids

my dogs have never bit my child but I dont let my child play with the dog all day everyday more like 20-30mins at a time not because the dog is unruley but because my daughter is 4yrs and she may do somethings to the dog that may make him/her bite her lil ass

 

I dont see it as a real problem what I call an APBT probly couldnt be picked out of a line up by the the so called experts

so just take the true APBT off the scene
and let the bullies run the show
as the pitbull

 

I would like to know the statistics on attacks. How many were bullies? Or gamedogs? Or Ukc/Akc show types?
Or were they just mixes? Our local animal control person told us that most attacks on people were by mixes. Mutts. Not necessarily pit mixes but plain old mixes. Dogs that looked like sooner one thing as the other.

 

I also agree. The dog isnt for everyone. I owned my first petbull when I was 15. growing up I thought I knew everything about these dogs until I met my APBT breeder. Who explained to me in full detail that APBT are "working dogs" and who took time to educate me on this breed. Before I was even allowed to have a a pick of the litter, I was walking his dogs, working them on the flirt pole, preparing chow, and working them on the mill (all under supervision). The thing is people arent educated. In my city a bunch of PEOPLE own pitbulls and there are BSL, cops will swarm you if your dog isnt muzzled. And it's only getting worse. I see where frank is coming from tho, we dont just want anybody having these dogs. At the end of the day it's the responsible owners who actually suffer.

 

i can find posts from members who participated on this thread that make it VERY clear they dont need to have the breed, so its kinda like the pot and the kettle:rolleyes:

Damn FD you are one abrasive SOB.......but...I like you, and I agree with what you are saying. The only cause for concern that I see is that a couple of the things you said (not necessarily meant) are a little bit black and white. While I agree that we can not paint these dogs as 100% kid and people safe no matter what novice dip-shit owns them, we also have to be careful not to paint the picture that these dogs are kid killing, man-biters on four legs. Neither one of these scenarios are correct and both will damn our dogs. I do know what you mean though. It's simple, bulldogs are for dog

no not sarcasim pet owners cause more problems for the dogs than dog fighters ever have ..... and i agree with frank on this one we need to change peoples ideals about what the dog is it has for to long been said that they make great pets and are great with kids ...... i live near Dallas do you know how many kids were killed or bitten badly by these so called pet bulls in the last year to dange many .... and its allways the same damn song and dance "the dog was like a part of our family " " we never raised it to bite" " it never acted like that before " now you tell me how many hunters do you see on the news talking about howthere dog just killed there kid

 

jelet right you cant breed the fight out of them getting pits 2 or so pep thank they can get along but not.far as pep and kids they can be fine if you teach them your expectaions.they deserve the right to have a good home and to exist and to say the gen public shouldent have them is ammo the dog killers.as breeders we just need to make sure where there going to responsible pep. if your breeding for fighting the public does not need them education and responsiblity!

but it does take a responsible person that knows exactly what it means to own one of these dogs

ive been around these dogs a number of years and the first thing I learned
is to keep an watchful eye on my dog, my family, my friends, my suroundings

all these play a big factor

family and friend may abuse the dog and say they are just playing
but what if the dog bites them then thats a vicious dog right WRONG

my suroundings change daily so I keep a watchfull eye for my neighbors
never chained run the streets all day may need to be put down mutt from nextdoor

cause nomatter how much I want him/her dead if my dog does it
The story will be I baited my dogs with it

and the last thing anyone needs is to be on primetime for dogfighting bust

and lastly I watch my dog so I know what he reacts pos./neg. to so I know what situations is good or bad for the individual dog

 

and an expert in my oppinion is someone that went to college to gaine a degree on a certine subject

but there is no degree in being a bulldog man you take it day for day
because no two days are alike some are better than others

but its the dicisions you make the determine if your worthy
