I would look at investing in a whelping box. That could mean the difference between life and death of your pups also. Cause you never know, she might have just tried to keep them warm.

My apologies if my response sounded rude. I thought I read somewhere that she killed her pups in her first and second breeding.... But seeing as how you posted a pic of one of her sons I guess not lol Sorry :o

we had a disscussion about this type of thing in another thread, and i think the answers were very different!
I am sorry you lost your pups, did she maul them,or did you just find them all dead like they could have been smothered? If she did maul them i would say breeding her again would not be wise. Some dogs just arent good for breeding,my brothers chow tried to kill her first and only litter(she got spayed after)the only reason she didnt is because my brother watched her the whole time untill the pups were old enough to be away from her.I think anyone who has had to raise pups would agree it's really not worth the stress and heartache if it can be avoided. And unless she's the last of her bloodline,i would just count my losses and get her fixed.

damn sorry about your loss, I agree with Joefeezy, welping box might be the way to go.....

  5. Yep purplepig said everything i was thinking.. KUDOS to u..;)
I would NOT take the pups totally from her next breeding \.. i would leave them on her but i would just watch her VERY VERY close!! and maybe have a back up mom ..or bottle feed pups and i would DEFINATELY take the pups away from her when ya leave .. just keep them warm with a heating pad..
Did she kill them by steping on them ?
or did she actually eat them ?
and u said she wasnt a good mom last time ..what did she act like ? did she seem like she would kill pups ?

and that is a BIG ass dog LOL

ya got a ped on the bitch ya bred ??

  6. what diffence does the ped make?

  7. The question is HOW did she kill the pups...they look very intakt, just curios...

You never mentioned how she killed the pups, and there's probably no way to know for sure if you weren't there when it happened. She may have suffocated them accidently, which is extremely common. A bitch will often eat a pup after it's dead, and sometimes eat it only partially (although it's pretty rare).

  9. it doesnt make no difference... i was askin because they stated in the original post the bitch was Jeep/RBJ ..in which i happen to be fond of those lines..

well that isn't they type of box to have pups in. time to start putting the dates on a calander and counting days then put her up to welp. I think they would be alive today had you put her up in a welping box a few days prior to welping. if she laid on them it was not likely intentional. you have no bedding there to buffer anything looks like hard mud with a few strands of straw. keep those houses clean and the area full of bedding. put your bitch up in the welping cage and pen 3-4 days before the welping date. have a good rail around the box to keep her from smoothering the pups. That doesn't make a bad mother just a poor place to have them. if she chewed their heads off or layed on them intentionally to smother them then yes that is a bad mother. Some are. I cull them. No point in keeping a worthless bitch.

that penn looks terrible. prolly would have gotten sick even if she didnt do this. you should have never left her alone.....
I suggest you figure out what you are doing before you try it again. I hope breeding you male (which hopefully wont get kiled) was worth it.

thats kind-of backwards dont ya think? you should have let her drop them in a CLEAN SANITARY place and then moved to that pen. well, not that pen, but a pen if need be.
I been sittin here watchin my pups every breath for 7 weeks...
and by the way... Attila said test for STD's (sexually transmitted deseases) not as in "tested".. lol, dur. what you mean "bring urs and you will find out "
find out what? if my gyp gets a rotten cooter after breeding to ur male? HA!
slow your roll. take deep breath and read slower.

next time (because for some reason I feel there will be a next time)you need to have her and the pups in a warm, well lit & non-drafty place.
a good heat lamp helps and bedding is very important. before she drops pick something that is dust free and that encourages exercise and nesting. after she drops pick something that naturally repells mold, mildew and pest.
