    More arrests possible in Halifax dog-fight investigation

    Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — Halifax County authorities said Wednesday that more charges and arrests are possible in a case involving 21 animals that were seized from a suspected dog-fighting ring near Roanoke Rapids.

    Erica Gary, 40, and her son, Zhaqwaun Jevontae Gary, 19, of 1045 Stack Powell Road, were arrested Sunday on a number of drug-related charges after deputies seized 68 marijuana plants from their home.

    Nineteen pit bulls and two puppies were also taken as a result of an 18-month investigation, but no charges have yet to be filed regarding the dog-fighting allegations.

    Investigators said the animals are being kept at an undisclosed location and that the animals have older injuries that are consistent with dog-fighting.

    It's unclear yet if or when any of the dogs will be put up for adoption since they are considered evidence.

    Deputies went to the Garys' home Friday night and found a large number of cars in the yard and lights on in a shed behind the residence. Several people ran from the area when they arrived.

    Deputies obtained a search warrant and worked with animal control officers to seize the animals, as well a dog-fighting pen, dog training weights, syringes and animal medications.

    Both Garys are out of jail on bond and are scheduled for court on June 5.

    Sorry,but if your fighting this.dogs,then I personally beleave you don,t need them.already they r trying to end the best dog in the world,and fighting them is just taking a step that way...wake up.
