Mastitis or possible Mammary gland infection?

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by elviejon01, Apr 8, 2018.

  1. Hello all,

Several months ago( approx 5 months ago, I was getting my bitch ready for an ADBA show and noticed that she started to show a slight sag on her lower teets(closer to her hind legs). After researching stuff I came to the conclusion that she had a false pregnancy. Seeral weeks ago I squeezed her teets and noticed that white milk like fluid came out of most of the teets.

Well I left it at that and continued to work my bitch with the hopes of tightening her up and getting her tuck back. Throughout this time she showed no ill effects or signs that something was bothering her.
Fast forward to this week, I was hanging out on the yard and I decided to squeeze her teets again. This time around some teets had no secretion, a few still had the white/clear fluid and the biggest one had red blood come out. I immediately called my vet and took her in. She was prescribed Simplecef 200mg and I was instructed to drain the teets daily for 14 days.

I have talked to several folks and none seem to think its mastitis as there is no dark painful spots and the blood is not puss filled blood rather clear blood( like the blood that would come out of your finger if you poked it with a needle

    Has anyone experienced this?

  2. I see no one has commented....I am no expert!.....But I no of two gyps with mastitis.and what you've just said is not the same as I've seen.I've never seen blood come out of there nipples either.just milk type substance.usually some time around there heat ,they start acting rather weird.one of them (she's a house dog)seeks out all the baby's toys and starts acting like there her pups!to watch her is mental.she licks them, cries, walks round with them in her mouth.it's mental.she only went like this after she'd had pups.now we never took her to the vet.we done are own research and came to the conclusion that she had mastitis.could be wrong.but I think I'm right.it could be bad for the dog,but not sure.some report's say it's nothing to worry about.some report's say it's bad.The gyp I'm on about, apart from her weird behaviour when she's in heat,is over all very healthy...hope this helps, hope some one else can comment.........good luck........

I've had a bitch with mastitis. Teets were dark purplish color, and became stiff and very warm. I used warm towel on them and once they softened up a bit I manually drained them. Never any blood though. First yellowish puss like fluid, thick. Then once all the puss was out, milk would flow. Then I stopped. i repeated same steps next day and that was it. No meds or anything. only experience I've personally had with mastitis. Never any blood at all.
