Totally agreed on that. My grandparents are from argentina and have been talking to a breeder about getting one.

  2. Do NOT keep an apbt and a dogo together, you will one day fine one or both dead, guaranteed.
The dogo is a working dog and MUST be worked constantly or they will, as was stated, become very agressive toward everything including humans.
People,, you CAN NOT try to take a working breed and make it a pet, that is the worst error a person can make and will put in danger the lives of everyone including the dog.
Proof of this can be clearly seen in this forum by reading about all the problems the apbt is having now.

Viegas I think you are making a terrible mistake by taking one of those dogs into your home, they do not belong in a persons home. I live 27 minutes away from Buenos Aires.

I'm more than willing to talk about this with you in a non arguementive way, but how can you say no one should own a working dog? I don't understand because a lot of breeds people own are working dogs, I'm sure I don't need to go down the list and many make great pets. I've been around the dogo and they are very people friendly dogs.

Many people own dogos and they make great PETs even with other dogs. Look on YouTube if you need proof. There's vids of them with pitbull. Rottweilers, dobermans, German shepherds, cane corsos, boxers etc etc.

A beautiful pup Viegas. One word to the wise. He doesn't need a "canine" companion. Human companionship is more than enough for a bulldog. In a "pet" home much more than enough. I feel you are both blessed to have found each other.:)

Hey, thanks for that. He's a great little guy very happy with the way he's coming along. I see a lot of potential, his old home wasn't a good situation for him. I plan on doing weightpulling with him once he's atleast 20 months. As far as the no dog companion goes, is it possible to have those two breeds live together? I'm not going to do something stupid but I want to know as much as possible

It is possible just not always a good idea if you try it just make sure you crate train and more important make sure they arent the same sex.

Be prepared to crate. Keep a parting stick handy in case you need to seperate. Never leave apbt alone with another dog. A lawnmower or leaf blower outside could excite him and apbt turn on at different ages. Mine hate mowers, string trimmers, chainsaws and other noisy tools and if 2 dogs get amped up un-supervised it could be messy. A couple crates inside and a couple chainspots outside or a chainspot and a kennel set-up; I'm sure you can handle it Viegas. It's a lot easier for someone just starting out to focus on one dog though. That way you can mold him into what you want him to be. I owned my first apbt for 7 years before I acquired another. He was a "real one" also. Of Carver and Devine breeding. The internet didn't exist and Stratton's "World of the American Pitbull Terrier" was new then. Good Luck in all of your endeavors with your pup.

Thanks everyoe I appreciate the advice and comments. I've owned dogs my entire life. This is my first bully breed. I'm used to having dobermans and German shepherds so this is something new, but all is going very well. C-murda, thanks for the tips.

  14. Viegas I never said no one should own a working dog, what I meant was that working dogs are bred to work and not to be pets.
The true bred Dogo Argentino is a working dog and must be worked continuously, you cannot crate one. The Dogo is a hunting pack dog and will work together with other dogs when they hunt so of course they can be with other dogs. However they require work constantly or they will become extremely agressive.
We use them to hunt wild boar and in my opinion there is no better dog in the world for that activity than the Dogo. But what I say is not something I read or saw on boobtube, I speak from my own experience.
If you plan on getting a Dogo from say Buenos Aires, then you will be getting one of those that you see on youtube and you "may" get one that can be kept as a pet. But if you plan on getting a true bred working Dogo from Cordoba, Tucuman or La Pampa then you will learn very quick that you made a huge mistake trying to make a pet out of a working dog.
I know for a fact that the creators of the breed, the Nores family, will not sell anyone who does not hunt a dog, no matter what you offer to pay them and they do this for a very good reason. The first thing they will tell you is that the dogs are not pets and they are not show dogs, they are working dogs and they require you to use them in the activity they are bred for in order for them to even consider selling one.

Now you may think I am saying all this to be argumentative or to make trouble but honestly I am only telling you what I have learned from experience and trying to keep you from making a big mistake. I know you probably will read my words and think,, "this guy is an idiot, he doesn't know jack". So you will not listen to my advise and end up learning from experience just as I have, so be it. Unfortunately I can't put what I have seen and learned in your head but if I was able to believe me you would not argue this point at all.

So I have given you my opinion and my advise, take it or leave it, doesn't make any difference to me.

On another note, that is a really good looking pup there. I hope it gives you much satisfaction and joy, best of luck to you.

Didn't wade through all the posts, but get the perception that we are putting the cart before the horse. All of us get to deal with the fact that 'most of what we know is wrong'.
Please follow gringo's advice, You might not get it,but you are being advised that you share a lot with other nubys.
Ask your neighbor if you can visit and if so,go and try to learn,

To gringo, I'm not trying to argue I stated it on my first post so thanks for giving your advice without bashing like some so. I can tell your from Argentina, as am I. Seems like you have a lot of knowledge on the dog, so thanks. I just misinterpreted your other post and thought you said working dogs can't be pets, but I understand what your getting at and it makes a lot d sense. Last thing I need is an aggressive 120lb dog. Thank you

Viegas, make sure you listen to gringo, he knows his shit.
    hes a good looking pup!
i wouldnt worry about the woman thing hel get over it they are a very warm dog when it comes to all people , she probly just freaked the poor bugger out a bit.
just let him be a pup and itl work out.

apbts , shouldnt and cant really be unsupervised around other dogs ever.
every reperesentation of the breed can vary, i have had one that was fine unless it was picked on and then it went nuts.
my current can be around other dogs [and i have only kept her around other bulldogs] for a max of about five minutes before her game becomes serious so now , i dont have her around other dogs full stop. one bad time is one bad time and if you put them back in the situation the dogs will pay for a lesson you should have learnt.
everyone has different opinions , but as a whole they shouldnt be around other dogs.

good luck keep them pics coming.

I'll def take his advice, I just misinterpreted his original post. But he's coming along great, the women thing is getting good too. She was scared of him and would freak, that's why she have em away. Poor day didn't even get a chance. But I'm lucky to get him he's a cool little guy. I will continue to update with pics and info.
