I was just wondering if riding my long board with my dog pullin for maybe 10 mins was bad for him, i know there are other threads related to this but did not see any that had to do really with pulling on a long board , thanks

Nice that would be good and fun if you can do it in an area where an accident is likely to not happen :p I sometimes skateboard with my girl and it is fun especially once they really get the hang of it. How long have you been long boarding for?

Now first though how old is your dog? if it's an adult 10 minutes shouldn't be a problem at all I ride my kick scooter with my girl for 25-30 min I keep her at a jogging pace but I pick up the pace and have her sprint and run in alteration.

ha yeah jus thru the neighbor hood, he will be 8 months on the 24th, jus kinda got one since i got the dogs, the buddy of mine that i get my dogs from runs all of his on the long board and they look and are in amazing shape so i thought i would get one. there not alot of resistance against him cuzz i push while he pulls so its not a constant pull for the 10-15 mins we go.

I see yeah plenty of people like to use bikes myself included until it was stolen. I still use my skateboard and now kick scooter to run her and we both enjoy the work out! since he is 8 months I wouldn't do anything more then what you are doing. I wouldn't run him everyday though walking is good everyday at that age for that amount of time as well. Also make sure you monitor his paw pads since I will assume when you do take him on the long board it's on concrete or the street.

sounds good then I know you might be eager to blast them off with their driven energy but it's always best to wait until they are finished growing and maturing. I didn't start working my girl a bit harder until she was a year and a half. Now that she is 2 we do serious work. For now though enjoy him as a pup and just burn off his energy with some fetch and walking. Tug of war is good as well especially for pups. I wouldn't run him on the long board more then once a week to be honest. Good that your friend advised you to also monitor his paws though.

With 8 months just enjoy your dog, that's it.
Play with it, walk it, feed it and give the dog it's rest.

In time a board is not a bad idea, i use it to and got my self a wide short deck with longboard weels under it and that's a blast.
I also use the skates and bike.

if you are going to have your dog pull you on the longboard-remember to use a harness not a collar. proper tool for the job

i use a stillwater zk leather harness and a 20 ft lead. i don't ride a longboard, just a regular skateboard. i didn't start with her until she was three years old. we walk the first 1/2 mile so she can empty out, then i ride/she runs for 2 miles, then i walk the last 1/2 mile back to the house. takes all of 15 minutes, put her back on the chain and she's golden. i'm near 30 years old and NEVER wore any kind of pads or wrist protectors on my board until i started running her. i recommend you get some. you will eventually take a spill, don't care how careful you are; on the same note make sure you have the lead wrapped good around your arm.

that combined with constant running on her chain has put her in the best shape of her life. about half way through her run, she really gets foamy around the mouth. she goes balls to the wall sprint for about one mile before she breaks stride. but by the time i get her home and put her back on the chain she's barely panting.

it really helped toughen her pads, and her nails never need trimmed. but pay attention to them at first, start slow. i used happy jack pad coating at first, then didn't need it after a couple weeks.

good luck, have fun, be safe.

oh, and DO NOT ride with the dog anywhere there's other mutts or critters, that will result in you biting it hard when the dog shifts it's attention off the road and onto another animal. i speak from experience.

*edit* - and make sure you have good, clean bearings in your wheels...don't want to add any more resistance for your dog. if you drop the 40 or so bucks on a good pair of swiss bones bearings, you'll be shocked how smooth and quick the ride is if you've never used them before. easy to maintain, too.

Yeahive fallen with his dad pulling me, i work in an shop no need to get tech about skateboards, I actually use swiss ceramics so that its as smooth as possible of a run for him, ive got a harness for him. so back to wat this post was about, should i run him or not? personally i dont see anything wrong with it, tho im no vet or anything, but when we get back to the house hes all good an always ready for more.

    start slow and pay attention.

use your judgement and increase the workout from there. be wary of humidity, adjust accordingly.

I live in reno so we dont have to much humidity, why would you have to be wary of humidity?
