Randall Abernathy spoke very highly of KW as Snooty is/was one of his favorites.
"Many have asked why would you give a dog of this caliber away. I never viewed this as giving a dog away. I looked at it as a friend needing a dog, and I cared not for the reason. If not for Kimsey Wood I would have never been able to own a dog of the caliber at what I had. I could go to Kimsey, and get a dog for breeding, or matching, and it never cost me anything. Every dog he got he always called, and asked if I wanted to use it. If he got one that came along with words from Maurice that you better breed to this one he always told us, and made it available."

I forgot to add but most should know the dog in post #43 given to Dr Kimsey Wood was the great Chinaman.

After a short stay, Dr. Wood shipped Chinaman to Vince and Bob in California to make up for an earlier prospect he had sold them that failed to live up to expectations. He arrived full of hookworms and roundworms and weighed only 42 lbs., 4 lbs. below his eventual best match weight of 46 lbs. Bob kept him on a long cable run and tried to help him overcome his emaciated state.
Don't know who's fault it was but Chinaman wasn't in the best state when Vinny got him......Don't know why any professional would have a dog in such bad condition

many version of this story I asked Randall about this:
"Bob called me, and was saying that he was not happy with Chinaman. He said he could not bite like he was told. I told Bob that something was wrong. I remember telling him that he could whip anything out there. I was almost mad that someone was insinuating that a dog I thought highly of was not good.. We discussed many things that might be wrong . I even thought maybe he (Chinaman) knows that place is not his home, and he knew that the yard belonged to another, and he would respect that temporarily. Nahh had to be something else. We finally began talking about weight. When he told me he weighed 42 pounds I knew immediately that was it. When you pull a dog to thin wrestling ability, and bite are the first skills to go. I told Bob to put the weight back on; give a few weeks to get used to it, and then put him on anything they had, and I guarantee you he will destroy it. I got another call a few weeks later, and Bob was beside himself. Said this is the best dog he had ever saw, and the rest is history."

  8. I agree. I had bulldogs in the 70s also.i bought several dogs from kinsey over the years. He was a fine man.he always had time to pick up the phone and talk about a dog.i agree there should have been more men like him

  9. Well first of all you have to buy your first dogs somewhere. He just started at the top.sounds like a smart move to me.i bought several dogs from kimsey.l will say this about the man and he was as fine a fellow as I met in the dog business. It was never to early or to late for him to take a call and talk bulldogs. When you went to his house he could tell you what ever you wanted to know about any dog he had on his yard. I truly miss the gut
