She's had to stay inside :( areas are pretty much cleared up. But I can't keep her inside the whole season. It'd kill her spirit!!

comfortis from a vet. u will need to have animal examined to get the prescription. fleas start to die in 30 min. eggs hatch and new fleas bite dog and die too therefore breaking the cycle. treat all dogs at the same time. give pill once a month. this is all u will ever need. no need to treat grounds, areas, etc.

you can also use natural repellant products like citronella or neem. I use "ark naturals neem spray". works awesome. stops the fleas from jumping on my dog in the first place. it also works really well at repelling flies and other bugs. its a little strong smelling on the citronella side, but it works. im reading a lot of what's said here and love all the different options I have heard so many but a lot of what you guys are recommending in stuff I haven't heard of. I don't think fleas are as bad up here in Vancouver b.c. but we still get swarmed seasonally. I buy a big bottle of horse neem shampoo and mix 50% with a shampoo of my choice and bath my dog every 2-3 weeks depending what he gets into and how bad the flea outburst get around here. the bathing in neem should be affective for about 2 weeks, so I use the spray in between. we have had a pretty awful year for fleas this year and I bring my dog to work.(which is a pet supply store) so we meet new dogs everyday. I haven't found a single flea on him this year or last. I realise our weather is very different but so far so good for me. hope this can help a little.

This is too strong for the dogs as their bath wash just to take all the fleas to their body. There is a medicine that can treat your dog for this. Also, you should seek a veterinarian to check how worse are fleas on your dog so that they can give you a right medicine.

I'm lucky I guess. Never have an issue with fleas or ticks, ever. Mosquitos and Spiders, well that's a different story.

Same here no fleas or ticks Mosquito's, spiders, bees. Not sure if it's been said 9 pages F that. lol But for those wo have some probs with insects in general. GO to y uor local garden center and spray NEEM OIL in surrounding areas. It's a natural 100% organic pesticide. That plus a lil garlic in their feed helps keelp insects or parasites at bay.

Also sprinkling Diatomaceas Earth in chain spots will help. It's a natural Silicate borken down from sea crustaions. They act as sharp particals that puncture the exoskeleton of insects.essentially drying them out from the inside. Both are effective, safe, and @ your local garden center. DE may also be found @ some pet or feed stores in food grade. Better IMO.

    TTT

I've been doing my normal routine because this is TX but I know others are about to get started fighting off those pests for the spring/summer. Perm 10, DE, fipronil, ivomec are my normals. Might be forgetting something but that's the essentials.

The thing with DE is it comes in food grade and non food grade. The non food grades works on fleas and a bunch of other insects. Its kinda like razors to insects as they crawl across it cuts them causing dehydration and then death..That's how it was explained to me but don't take it as gospel .I have tried to research this but not really enough info available on DE...But the food grade u can sprinkle on food but not non food grade duh ! And I use food grade 7 days in A row once every 3 months that way its harder for anything to build up a immunity .like I said don't take any of this as gospel.

I could be wrong as well bama but I think it's the food grade that we want for both. I believe that's what I've found by being a google researcher lol. Didn't double checked before typing this and maybe I should have.

Tree the non food grade is used here on worm beds and it works well. But I have never used it for fleas.I just use food grade and not for fleas.

The only thing about the non food grade is it has additives that can't be consumed. The non food grade is also bad to breathe so sprinkling in their chain spot may not be to good. The bad thing about the net is you'll find twice as much bad info as you do good. You just have to find the right source who knows what they're doing and saying. I've heard of people using it in the feed to take care of worms. Not sure what kind but that's what they're using it for.
