I agree with info on the net Mud, I try to find all I can and then compare and see what's similar about what I found and as always you have to use common sense (easier said than done for some).

Exactly Muddy and that's why I haven't really used it..I know people that have but I haven't.I considered it but I said shit when I trim the grass around the spots it's going to blow everywhere..If,the food grade solves your flea problem well hey that's great.

Personally, I just use it as an additional method to combat the pests along with the others. I don't know if it does anything at all but it sure doesn't hurt.

I've used DE for a couple yrs now. Not on my chainspots but in my garden and also t o line certain areas of the house where pests have snuck through from time to time. It is effective by itself, mixed with dirt I don't know? If it gets wet too it's a total loss.

I use a pesticide free all in one flea spray. No spot on chemical treatments since they irritate my dogs skin and I feel like most the fleas are immune to it. I spray the dogs and there bedding and haven't seen any fleas for a long time now. It works by immobilizing the fleas like a sticky trap.

Regarding websites, government and university sites are the most reliable sources of information...you still have to be careful that your not on a fake site though,as it takes only one thing different in a Web address to lead you up the garden path....do a lot of cross referencing..... Google search for some helpful tips....having said that using a different search engine a good idea also.

Since Dakota is only a puppy what would work? We have given her a Dawn bath and the vet provided stuff but she still has alot. Not sure what to do cause the vet wants us to use the stuff they sell.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

Being a pup is not a issue ! Thier is stuff you can use for pups under 12 weeks old..Pet Armor from Walmart has one for pups under 12 weeks..And if you can't find anything give flea baths regularly until the pup reaches a age that you can use the correct flea preventiive..It's not not rocket science !

Some flea preventives don't work ! Frontline doesn't work where I live ! the trick is to find what works and in the mean time keep the fleas off the pup ! give flea baths when needed until you find what works !

Im not convinced that DE is effective against worms. Its useless when wet.

If your house dog has fleas cut up a flea collar and put it in your vaccuum

    Heartworm and flea control

So I went to the vet today and got heartworm and flea control and got ripped off like I do every year. What do those of you with dogs in warm climates do? I used to use Ivermectin from the feed store for heartworm but got lazy I guess. Fleas are bad in my area and the oral Comfortis is the only thing that has been realiable for us. What is everyone else doing?

Keep grass cut short, spray your whole yard and wait 2 weeks and spray again.Clean dog houses out and burn the bedding and keep doing this till their gone.I would also move the dog houses and spray underneath and don't put the house back right after u spray .Let the sunlight hit that spot and dry all the moisture up.

No you didn't. Your post was moved here because there is already a bunch of flea/heartworm threads. Yours got merged into this one instead of starting another thread.
