In closing arguments on Thursday, Assistant State Attorney Jaime McManus said 17 injured dogs, syringes and supplements found in a refrigerator and a blood-stained pen show that dogfighting occurred at the home.

"This is a case about victims without voices and about deeds that happen in the dark," she said. "Because the victims cannot speak for themselves, we have to rely on the evidence to shine a light on the crimes."

Cumberland lived at the home where the dogfight was broken up, according to testimony and court records, with her boyfriend. Prosecutors allege she either knew about the practice or chose to ignore it.

Bell, on the other hand, is accused of traveling to attend the dogfight with two of his own pitbulls. Prosecutors alleged he borrowed a rented a car from a companion in which police found two injured dogs and told police he "wasn't even betting."

Attorneys for Bell and Cumberland offered different defenses. Both defendants testified on Thursday.

Cumberland said she didn't know the fights were happening and that her boyfriend arranged them. She said he used the dogs for hog hunting.

Bell testified that he was in the area with a friend and went to buy some marijuana but that he didn't attend the dogfight or use the car in question. He also said he did not make the betting comment.

"Ya can't fix stupid" I hope Mr. Bell doesn't have any plans for the next several years.

I am with you both. Cops defiantly lie to get convictions. I meant to add this testimony. "Bell testified that he was in the area with a friend and went to buy some marijuana" above the Ron White quote.

Lol, well the thing is if they didn't actually catch him in the car it'll be hard to prove. So if he was there, not in the car with wounded dogs, then the I wasn't here to bet I had a few grand in my pocket because I came to buy weed may actually help him lol
