If he did in fact have a mental illness and it is proven that this illness was the contributing factor in his death then I will take back what I said, even though my cousin who was a diagnosed Manic Depressive killed himself and i still consider him a coward for it.

Ray Lewis is the best lb in my book, followed by Butkus ,Lambert,Taylor,.You can switch Butkus,Lambert, and Taylor in there anyway u want but Ray is the best.None of them could cover a field side to side like Ray could.I also agree that taking your own life is a shitty thing to do to your family. For the record my dad killed his self also. You always ask why.

    NGK-
Severe depression is considered a mental illness. If you haven't been there (clinically depressed and contemplating suicide), then you can't understand. Your opinion is based on zero knowledge of what was going on in his life. Simply stated, suicide is not logical, and people that are clinically depressed are at times unable to form logical thoughts that people that are not depressed can come to-. A non depressed (normal chemically balanced) person is capable to critically and logically reason that suicide is not the answer or in any way logical. It doesn't have anything to do with being a coward, it's an illness that has to do with chemical imbalance in the brain. That type of depression is nothing I would wish on any person- I've been there and it's brutal and usually takes a couple of years to fully come out of.

    RIP Junior...

I agree whole heartedly..Everyone has some sort of shit going on that is tough...it is called life...there are thousands upon thousands of people who have had their lives taken from them thru diseases/sicknesses/violent crime..etc..etc..who fought to the bitter end and lost their lives unwillingly...so i do agree, i feel badly for the families and friends who are left behind...but for the person who actually chooses to take their own life i find it hard to be compassionate....
a kid i was in the service with back in the 80's was engaged to some hoochie and when he found out in person she was a hoochie he tied a bed sheet around his neck and jumped out the window....it was hard for me to understand...i was a young kid...but watching his mom deal with it made me think less of him....
so J. Seau played a violent position for a number of years and made it to the pro bowl numerous times....that may not make him top ten all time but it does put him in the conversation....and to complicate things the linebacker position can be broken down into several groups...LT played on the outside and he was a far better pass rusher than run stopper....on some of the same teams carson and banks were run stopping linebackers...the nitskies/hendricks/butkuses played in a run first era.....and what puts junior in the conversation is that he played the pass and the run very well....he could rush the QB but still be effective in coverage....so if you break the linebackers into their specialties in all-around he gets into the top ten....US1

True, some people commit suicide as a last act of manipulation, and most o the time a jilted lover does that with the "I'll show you with this one last act" mentality. Its hard to lump all suicide's into one category, but the families are always the ones that pay the price for such acts, especially children, and I believe Junior had 3.
    So, pray for the families!

I don't know if he even did kill himself, they were saying Arturo Gatti killed himself, but it was his wife.I'll wait until the investigation is through but I think the girl that found him did it IMO.Steve McNair's girlfriend killed him I think.I feel bad for the family though his mom looks like a nice lady.R.I.P.

Did anyone ever charge Gatti's wife or girlfriend? She skated on that I think. The news is now reporting that when junior drove off that cliff a couple years ago, that it was an attempt at suicide. A shot to the chest doesnt really seem like the way to kill yourself IMO.
His mother does seem like a very nice lady.

I'm pretty sure she got charged after coming back to the states, but on all the boxing forums right after there were people calling the guy a coward and the people that knew him said no way. There was a lady on the news last year that was the wife of some rich guy that "killed herself" and it looked like a murder but the cops said suicide.I think Chief Wiggum has alot relatives.Yeah I felt really bad for Junior's mom,and his family looked really nice too.Even if he did kill himself I wouldn't go as far as calling him a coward.

hell yeah lakewood i agree, LT was a monster if you remeber them 80's games on live broadcast, let alone at meadowlands. Ray is definitely a modern day LBs LB especially after he was reborn since he beat his charge.

I just looked and they finally ruled his death a homicide in 2011.

i just saw a story on ESPN this morning that Juniors death/suicide is gonna push for more extensive studies about head injuries and the damage it has on an athlete's mental health as they age.

NFL is trying to make it safer thats why you see the fines now for leading with the helment .Wide recieevers are the most at risk because thier looking for the ball easy for a DB to lead with the helment for the big shot..You cant tackle a running back the same way he will juke you soon as u put your head down its a weakness he is trained to look for..Have to keep your head up and eyes open that way u dont get juked the last split second.

Well, you do not need a concussion for your brain to be all fkd up. Repeated blows to the head for over a decade even with minimal trauma will have long term effects. The nfl already has all the data on this shit, the government and military get all their info on head trauma from the nfl lol that's how much studying they have done on this. But it is the nature of the game.

Also, I'm not going to accuse jr of juicing but I do remember reading an article about nfl players being surveyed and like 3/5 or more have tried anabolics. Im not against it or for it but know first hand what hormones, natural and artificial can do to you emotionally. Where you have no control of your feelings, thoughts n emotions. All it takes is one slip up or of you feeling fine for sometime so u don't pct right thinking you're okay and bam 2 months later ur a wreck n don't know why

look what happened to that WWF star Chris Benoit.(sp?)
the 'roids fucked him up big time, and he later wiped out his family, then himself.... and look at Ali, tell me the blows to the head arent partially responsible for his current condition.

im not accusing Junior of juicing, but pro athletes are expected to perform at a certain level or they lose their jobs. such a shame...when your career is over, its over, but so many are too competitive, and love the sport so much that they will do whatever it takes to stay on the field. as Venom stated, it is the nature of the game.
the great Vince Lombardi was once quoted as saying " football is a combination of chess and war" and he was oh so right. i just wish some would hang it up when the time comes. as a die hard Pack fan, Favre was once my hero, but obviously he had taken to many hits when he decided to move on and become a Viqueen.

The answer to me is JR had the same thing some of our soldiers returning home from the middle east have had probs with..U notice we have more and more suicide from soldiers coming home from the war..Way I see it JR was a fierce at competing and he played on the highest level. Now all the sudden its gone..I think thats where the depression kicked in.comThis guy no matter where you rank him among the best LB,s it doesnt change the fact that he was a beast and gave a 100 percent effort every time he stepped on the field. When you play football its kinda like a war you sacrifice your body to win..I said kinda like war not totally..this is jmo
