Hard to recommend a “dosage”, when you fail to state what you are wanting too treat!

My vet recommends using Ivermect Sub Q only for the treatment of mites & mange. 1/10 of 1cc per 10#s of body weight. You can give it orally for heartworms.

Miakoda gave you the information and dosage, using Ivomec for heartworm prevention! Why do you feel the need to give it subcutaneous?

Texas A&M University recommends .10 cc per 10lbs of body weight for Sub Q. I have used this dosage for at least 10 years with no problems. Given regularly it will prevent everything with the exception of Tapeworms. I use Valbizin cattle wormer for that.

Please, show their field studies that you are “quoting”. Being no University would recommend that high of a dosage, especially when you take into account the Collie breeds known reaction to that high of a dosage. The dosage you are recommending is higher than that, recommended for Sarcoptic Mange (200ug/kg)

  12. I was asking about injections cause they just seem easier. No mixing. I've been giving my dogs and puppies shots for along time now. So I'am comfortable with them. I wasn't trying to second guess anyone. Iam just asking questions.

I don't however understand why some say Ivomec is not for heartworm givin subQ and others are saying it is? Just wondering?

    Thanks,
    Geo.

  13. Ok, I went ahead and gave the Ivomec orally, I mixed it with OJ. I hope this is alright. I'm sure ya'll will tell me if it wasn't. I gave .5cc and mixed w/2cc of OJ, for each of my dogs. Their all in the 50lbs range.

I believe I read in another post that this should take care of all the worms except tape. Is this correct?

I use a dropper to dispense mine. 1 drop per 10lbs. Way less than the .1 cc per 10 lbs rule. I've been doing this every month for the past 12yrs & have never had one test pos for heartworms. Just a thought.........

I was assuming you were inquiring about giving the dose to an APBT. I am aware of the reaction that Collie's have to Ivomec. As far as the studies to back my statement, I have none. I have worked closely to certain individuals whose yards were used for testing of various things and this is one of them. I have been around these dogs for almost 20 years and also being from Texas I have been around a lot of the greats, so I assure you I do know a thing or two about these animals.

Makes no difference to me if you use my dosage or one of the other recomendations.

"Being no University would recommend that high of a dosage", this comment I take offense to as it appears that you are calling me a liar.

Thank you all for your time, and Texasbulldogs if you ever feel like making another derogatory comment to me or about me, I would suggest you think before you type. Some people aren't as forgiving as myself. You may want to know a little more about a person before you call them a liar.

I wasn’t “inquiring” about anything! Like I stated, how do you come up with that dosage, thin air?

“As far as the studies to back my statement, I have none.”
    Then why mention it?

“I have worked closely to certain individuals whose yards were used for testing of various things and this is one of them. That’s great, seems we have a lot in common then. But does any of it have anything to do with the “proper” dosage of Ivomec for heartworms?

“"Being no University would recommend that high of a dosage", this comment I take offense to as it appears that you are calling me a liar.”
What is there to take offense too? You stated a study was done, but yet to provide any proof! The dosage you are giving is higher than that recommended for Sarcoptic mange treatment, let alone for heartworms. So again, what is there to take “offense” too?

“Texasbulldogs if you ever feel like making another derogatory comment to me or about me, I would suggest you think before you type.”
I always think, before I type…try it yourself! If you would, maybe you wouldn’t quote something then offer no proof, once asked for it. Nor would you be recommending an over dosage of Ivomec.

“Some people aren't as forgiving as myself.”
And? Nor are they so thin-skinned they would get all bent out of shape over text!

“You may want to know a little more about a person before you call them a liar.”
What does this have to do with the thread? I just asked for “proof”, being you mentioned it and used it in a way too validate, your post! Being you was the one mentioning it, you should be able to provide it, no? If not, which is obviously the case…you shouldn’t of mentioned the phantom study.

i am curious as to why or how giving ivormec orally differs to giving sub q at all, what are the adverse affects of the sub q injection? also searkkennels gave the same recomended dosage as xxx but the only difference was that it was recomended that the dosage by given orally not sub q. i have been told that 1% ivormec is ok to give a dog at .1 cc per 10 lbs of body weight by sub q injection by many people who have been doing so for quite some time and i have been doing so over two years with no adverse affects that i have seen, and i understand that because i haven't seen it does not mean that nothing is going wrong. if any one can enlighten me on this i would be very appriciative.

i to use .1 cc per 10 but when you compare that dosage to heart guard tabs it is a great over kill. if i am not mistaken i had someone tell me the .25 is more than ample for heart worm pervention but i am not sure who told me that.
