Ivermectin for sarcoptic??

Can sarcoptic be treated with daily ivermectin like demodex can?? a friend of mines Lab x Heinz 57 has it and ive only treated demodex not sarcoptic.

well what is it?? i always dosed 0.3 cc per 10 pounds daily for demodex

 

Sorry, I do not know the dosage off of the top of my head.I know that it is different than the demodex dosage. I think its in the complete gamedog book or in some vet book that I have. I will check for you tonight.

if it has collie breed blood -do not use it !! & every week up the dose x .5 so a 50 lb dog would get 1/2 a milliter everyday after 7 days i would give him almost 3/4 of a milliter , use for about 3 weeks until ALL is gone also use 1 cup hot water 10 heaping table spoons of BORAX & 1/2 cup of peroxide , give the dog a bath first dry it off them mix the mixyure untill disolved the best u can , apply it on infected areas DO NOT DRY IT OFF !!! it works see almost immediate results !!!! drys it up !! i have given my dogs 3x the called for amount of ivomec & never had NO problems !

 

Actually according to the 5 minute Vet Consult (a book which every vet hospital has and vets use) for sarcoptic you use ivermectin and the dose is 0.2 - 0.3 mg/kg by mouth. It is 2 doses 2 weeks apart.

Has there been a skin scrape to verify it? Does the family have any lesions?

However go to your vet. I swear by Ivermectin for Mange. But:

1. you have to get skin scrapes. every 3 weeks, you need two negative test in a row in order for it to be deemed Cured.

2. I have been giving different dosing depending on severity of case 1ml per day is what I have been told is best for 40 pound dog. That's right everyday.

3. It's not that expensive at vet test should be around 15-45 bucks and medicine should be around 80.... and medicine will come flavored... It's hard giving straight Ivermectin.

4. if you do what vet says Mange should never come back again.

 

Hes gonna do the 0.3 cc per 10 pounds daily route, hes used to dosing the liquid ivermectin he has quite a few dogs and uses it for heartworm prevention. I just wanted to make sure ivermectin was effective on sarcoptic. Hes also going to put him on a round of cephalexin to keep away a secondary infection. thanks everyone

American dogman there are 2 types of mange. Sarcoptic commonly called scabies is contagious and if the dog comes in contact with it it can get it anytime. As well as people.

Demodex is the other that is not contagious to dogs or people. It is hereditary.

 

It does not need to be given daily. It is given once. Then repeated in 2 weeks. Daily is over kill and can cause toxicity.

Ceph can hurt.

 

ill let him know not to do it daily then, whats wrong with cephalexin?? thats what my vet told me to give for the first 12 days of mange treatment before?

 

bullshit ! i know i done it just as i posted !!! with no side effects or problems ! cynthia stop trying to learn for bullshit books !! Cynthia isnt making shit up, she has the experience to back it up i respect her opinion on everything vet related, i would chose a different route honestly but i would take her advice over just about anyone elses most of the time. I do want to hear why not to use cephalexin though.

Hands on experience try 7 years in Vet med. 2 years in school for it. Is that not enough hands on experince. I will stick to medically proven methods not home remedies that kill. Again refer back to your dead dogs.

 

Budboy you can look at the links that A texan posted and bookmark the site. The 5 minute consult is in every vet hospital and used often It also has a formulary for drug doses. A great asset to have.

Only question I have is, has a skin scrape been done to verify that it is actually sarcoptic? Because if it isn't only 2 doses may not work.

yes he took him to the vet yesterday and the vet wanted to do some crazy off the wall shit.
