Yeah, I read AGK's thread, I may PM him and others when I'm actually ready to keep more than one animal. It's always nice to hear what does and does not work for others, I'm always open to adding to my bag of tricks in keeping my dog secure.

So, this Johnny dude, wasn't an actual dogman then? Just some yutz that should've owned a stuffed animal? I thought he was claiming to be a dogman.

I don't think he was...I did look at his profile and he did keep dogs on a chain. It sounded to me like he went to jail and they ended up with someone else.Story made national head lines .Google and read the story.

They attacked a couple I'm gone say mid 50s .The lady was mauled to death.Just happened recently. But like the O.P. Randy said ,everyone says well they never bit or showed any aggression before.Well shit happens
.That's why you preach propper setup and checking your chains and hardware routinely.

I read the story, they had it posted up on PBC when I first got interested. Yep, he's in jail. 25K bail (I think) I was curious if he was claiming to be a dogman. I was at our training club with my pup earlier this week and overheard some people talking saying that he was and he kept game bred dogs. I couldn't find that answer or if he actually had a yard.
Interesting how stories get twisted, because based on everything I've tried to find about the guy and couldn't, is that he's no more of a dogman than I am. (which I am not at all)

I have to disagree with people saying 'they never showed any signs of human aggression", I've raised a couple human aggressive dogs, and there are always signs that the dog is not human friendly. It is the owner's responsibility to secure said animal and if one has to build a freaking fortress to keep the dog detained, then like OP said, that's just what you have to do.

Looks like he had blue dogs and the red one looks like a mutt as well.

He was in jail for domestic abuse at the time so that is kind of a sign that he wasn't the best kind of person. Pics of his kennel also looked like slapped together panels and tarps.

Yeah, but according to the neurotic collie peeps at my training club "they were game-bred" *eyeroll*. I thought maybe he possibly did have some legit dogs, but it doesn't look that way.

Really? Not trying to argue, genuinely curious, have there been APBT that all of a sudden just became human aggressive out of nowhere, that weren't culled immediately?
I've always had signs with human aggressive dogs, that they were not people friendly. They were predictable that way. I don't think I could keep a dog like that. Unpredictable, I mean.

^^^ I know there were some manbiters out there, but weren't those dogs able to be managed by their owners, because their owners knew the dog's quirks?

You can have a game dog hats just super friendly with adults but this same dog may see a child in a whole different way.Treat them like a loaded gun ET Raven. Now I don't have a dog on my yard that I think would harm anyone but I treat them like a loaded gun.

    Good advice there, bama.
I always thought there'd be a sign with a dog that didn't like a person or child or gender, whatever. I've experienced all that before. You watch their body language....tail flicks, eyes, ears, posture and it was telling of what could possibly transpire.

They will all pretty much tell you what they dont like. You may have a individual that never showed any signs.it happens.

I finally found pics of his set up, (my google-fu isn't the savviest and it doesn't help that I don't have FB), but good lord, a toddler could've done a better job.

...that's why you treat them like a loaded gun. Honestly, that puts things in perspective for me, a lot. Again, good advice.

I'm not saying don't socialize.Things that worry dogmen the most is when we not at home.If you have a job and a life you can't be there 24 hrs a day.So you better have a secure setups.I'm pretty much care free when I'm home but when I'm gone I worry.I would imagine every one else does.I kinda cringe sometimes when my cell goes off and I am not at home lol.

Same here. I have 3 on chain setups and 2 in kennels. 2 of my 3 on the chain can eat through anything like chain link and pig panels. The other one is on the chain because he's just a killer and I can't trust him around any animal. The 2 in kennels don't even want to know what's on the other side of those panels so they are fine with just some pavers on the perimeter and roofs. But I still worry every time I leave for more than a day because you never know what could happen.

LOL, I don't socialize now! Once I get dogs, that will just be my good excuse to stay home! I wont have people giving me shit telling me I have no reason not to join them out.
I understand worrying about dogs when you're not home. I owned a human aggressive dog that I put down in the fall. I could not rest if I wasn't with that dog because I knew I was the only one who she'd listen to. I ended up taking her every time we went out of town, on vacation, anything. If she couldn't go somewhere, for whatever reason, we just stayed home.
There was no way we could have boarded her. We had someone come to the house once to feed her and let her out while we went to Cedar Point for the day. That person could not even get through the door because the dog was having none of it. I got a call that day and I just said leave the dog in the house, I will feed her when I get home and if she goes inside, she goes inside. Got home, the dog held it all damn day, but that was the last time she didn't come with us wherever we went. We used to stay at pet friendly hotels and houses and leave her in the crate when we would go out. Also put a big ass sign on the door saying do not disturb.
