Its Not the Beans - Fat Bill

I owned my first well bred fast lane dog, his name was Stomper. Stomper opened many doors for me as he proved to be a gamedog and first-class producer. I bought Stomper as a 10 month old from Buzz Atkins and this purchase changed my life forever. I had owned pits for a few years before this but they were 50.00 dogs from the newspaper, pure garbage. When I ran across Atkins in a chance meeting at the local market, I had no idea the impact this one day, or that one dog, would have on the rest of my life.

During the Journey to the Center of the Game. I have seen many things, twice, at least. The part of the game I enjoy the most are the people, as you say to yourself "what about the dogs, Fat Bill?" Oh yeah the dogs, well the dogs aren't what makes it a GAME. They are a part of it, but the game is the occurrence caused by one man versus another man, both with bloodlines of their choice. Much like when an athlete chooses what type of shoes he is going to wear, not that I am comparing these dogs with a pair of shoes but as the chosen equipment of top dog men for over 100 years! These men and the circumstances that guide their decisions is so different that trying to understand it all is mind boggling. All with one common goal, to better the breed. The men that were on this journey include such greats Tudor, Charlie Lloyd, Carver, Trahan, Saddler, Fitzwater, Kinard, Hubbard, Armitage and Louis Colby to name a few. These are men from the Golden Age of the game.

One man I met years ago was always close to the square, Carolinas-Boss Hogg. Now this guy wasn't worth a darn at conditioning a dog as he only had two official matches and he lost both of them, his first was into Barney Fife using Panther and Boss Hogg's dog quit in 45 minutes. Both dogs ran hotter than the Texas blacktop and Hogg's dog pulled p, Panther proved to not only be a destroyer, but as hot as he was running proved to be game as he won and did not make a bad move. Boss Hogg's second entry into the game came about because of some comments he made after a show at Mountain Man's house. As we were leaving with our winner, Boss Hogg shouted out "You guys don't impress me, I got a bitch that will take anything you got!" Well 8 weeks later he got what he asked for, like the Texas Iron Man says "Be careful what you wish for." It was a two match card as Mr. Bullyson was matched into a sister to Dutch's Champion Tiger, Dutch's bitch quit in 45 minutes. Next up was Boss Hogg and his big red bitch, I was using a bitch known as Dixie Line Connection's Velet. She was out of Crum's Caribou and Patrick's Lady in Red. we had bought her from E. Hollingsworth. Well that dog of Boss' was looking good as she really went to work on our dog, but alas she ran hot. By the 30 minute mart Hogg's dog was looking for the oxygen tent, for Hogg was surely a 30 minute man, isn't that right Jerry. Well at 1:25 minutes Hogg's dog took the count and his backer bought our bitch from us and the night was over. Boss Hogg and I became friends after this as he knew he would only pay and pay if he chose to stay on the other end of things. Well a few months later Boss came to his first Pig Pickin and with him he brought the best darn baked beans you ever let slide across your lips. Now with all the contempt he had for me wound up inside I had to ask him "What's in the neans?" God and Boss Hogg are the only two that knew what was in that pot, but Hogg said I will trade you the recipe for the beans for a copy of your keep. I agreed and sold my first keep ever and have made many pots of Boss Hogg's Bad Ass Baked Beans since that day. As with conditioning programs, there has been change in the recipe but they are fundamentally the same as the originals. This past year at Pig Pickin the food was great as always and a big thank you to everyone that attended. Many people that were at the Pickin wanted to know about those beans. Well it's like I said before" It's Not the Beans, but the Man who Cooked Them"

    Heres the recipe:

Boss Hogg's Bad Ass Baked Beans

1 Gallon of B&M Baked Beans
    1 Pound of Hamburger/Not Lean
    1 Pound of Bacon
1 Pint of Your Favorite Barbeque Sauce
    1/2 Dozen Habenaro Peppers
    1 Dozen Jalepeno Peppers

Get a large stew pot and put the hamburger and bacon in the pot and cooked at medium heat until brown. Do not drain the grease. Add this to the beans, barbeque sauce and the peppers. Be sure to slice the peppers up into little pieces. Add to this 1/2 gallon of water and let cook on low heat for 6-12 hours.

I'm not from USA & will be camping in a tent with my boys. That baked bean recipe seems like a good idea around a camp fire. Is the hamburger a beef patty or is it what we call in SAfrica minced meat?
